    1) Use DVD Decrypter (in "File" mode, choose "Select all Files) to "rip" the ENTIRE DVD (remove copy protection and then copy) to your hard drive

    2) If the ripped DVD is 4.37Gigs or less, you can use NERO to directly burn the ripped DVD to a burnable DVD

    3) If the ripped DVD is greater than 4.37Gigs, you'll first have to compress it - using DVDShrink, DVD2One, DVD95Copy or similar, to first compress it

          Re V10

If the dvd has already been backed up and you want another backup, you can select DVD copy in Nero, as if you where making a backup of a game

that of course only makes sense if you want to keep ALL the content the dvd offers.

make sure to get rid of all content you dont necessarily need:
additional audio streams (which all-in-one tools can get rid of) and of course possible trailers and stuff alike.

if your data is still much bigger than ~ 5.5 gb you will NOT be able to produce decent quality backups using the tools mentioned.

              1) V10's original question was specifically regarding how to make a copy of ALL of the DVD's contents:

              "Here is my question:

Can i make a 1 on 1 copy with Nero Burning Rom????

If i can't do that how do i have to make a copy so that i

              2) Your statement, "if your data is still much bigger than ~ 5.5 gb you will NOT be able to produce decent quality backups using the tools mentioned.", is very much at odds with the postings of the more seasoned many, many users of the excellent DVD compression programs

Just curious - have you just recently purchased a burner (since you haven't previously posted to the DVD-related forums), or are you basing your observations on viewing DVDs burned by other people?

                Hey dude,

Must be the way we do stuff,
Did Gangs of New York, 7.5 GB?

Compressed onto 4.3Gb, no probs at all,

                Oh well.

                  @ setarip

contrary to some other people i dont rely on what other peolpe say. i base my statements on experience.

i dont really care what other people consider good or decent quality since i might have my own way of judging this material.

so maybe some folks dont see flaws i might consider annoying.

when a 1on1 copy is asked for i nevertheless feel like pointing out that only the really necessary streams should be kept in order to realize best possible quality.

this however, might be an aspect not all of us here have in mind.

and *shrinking* some 5.5-6gb or even more down to 4.3 gb leaves VISIBLE artefacts when using tools like dvd2one, dvdshrink or alike.

they simply cannot cope with encoders ala cce or tmpeg (or ic7 to a certain degree).

taking into account how fast they work and how easily they can be handled they might be wonderful for some - insufficient for others.

Your post wasn't entirely clear Uncas, I simply wanted to point out that Instant Copy is not an encoder, but a transcoder in case anyone has any misconceptions.

Theoretically, transcoding should provide higher quality. However, when heavily compressing material you may find that re-encoding (using CCE or TMPGenc) may allow you to attain better results.

I concur wholeheartedly, having obtained excellent results with large DVDs (7.5Gigs and more) such as Gangs of New York, Saving Private Ryan, The Wild Bunch ("flipper"), and many, many more...

I'm guessing that you inadvertently overlooked the last part of my other post to you, so I'll post it here again:

if you didnt overlook the line, then maybe i dont understand your reason for asking.
since you should know, you might want to explain.

"i base my statements on experience."

Is that the experience of viewing and evaluating burned DVDs given to you by others, or the experience of burning your own DVDs?

If you do now have your own DVD burner, which one did you purchase?
