How do I make DVD's from back up VOB's?

    Newbie here...
I used DVD Decrypter nearly a year ago to back up some DVD's. I have been storing the VOB's on an 80GB hard drive ever since. I recently purchased a DVD burner and would now like to make backup discs that are playable (Chapters, Menus, and all if possible) in my DVD player.

When I try to create a DVD Video project in Nero 5.5.10.42, it tells me that the VOBs do not pass compliance check (or something like that) and may not play. I have tried importing them into Pinnacle Impression DVD Pro, and they will import, but no chapters are there, and the software treats each VOB like a seperate Title.
What software should I use to get the job done? Thanks!

An example of one of the DVD's I would like to make contains the following files as created by DVD Decrypter:

    vts_01.idx 554KB
    vts_01.lst 1KB
    vts_01_0.ifo 80KB
    vts_01_1.vob 1,048,544KB
    vts_01_2.vob 1,048,544KB
    vts_01_3.vob 1,048,544KB
    vts_01_4.vob 780,984KB
    vts_01_INFO.txt 9KB

    Total size is approx. 3.74GB.

Have you run Smart Ripper over it again just in case ?
Might redo what you need to burn it

It appears that you used DVD Decrypter to rip the "movie only", rather than "ALL files".

You should be able to use IFOEdit to create the necessary .IFO and .BUP files ("VIDEO_TS.IFO, VIDEO_TS.BUP, and new [delete the originals first, or move them to a different folder - keep only the .VOB files in the present folder] "VTS_01_0.IFO" and "VTS_01_0.BUP").

After you've accomplished this, you should be able to (easily) create a proper DVD "package" including a menu and chapters, using "TMPGEnc DVD Author" (NOT "TMPGEnc").

        Let us know of your success ;>}

Okay, so I got a little bold and tried just making an ISO/UDF DVD ROM in Nero (it's nearly finished). It's a DVD+RW disc, so if need be I can erase and try again.

I probably did use "movie mode" instead of "file mode". I was orignally going to make DivX files of the movies... but I sort of put that project on the backburner, and never got back to it. Now I just want to free up the HD space, and bought the DVD burner to do so.

So, I just downloaded the newest DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink. I tried opening a different movie (larger in file size, but backed up using same settings as the first movie I mentioned) in DVD Shrink, and I got an error "file does not exist" unable to continue.

DVDShrink will not recognize "movie only" file groupings - only complete DVD "packages". As I stated previously:

You should be able to use IFOEdit to create the necessary .IFO and .BUP files ("VIDEO_TS.IFO, VIDEO_TS.BUP, and new [delete the originals first, or move them to a different folder - keep only the .VOB files in the present folder] "VTS_01_0.IFO" and "VTS_01_0.BUP").

I think I understand what you mean, let me make sure I am doing this right...

I copied the whole folder to a different drive, and then moved everything EXCEPT the VOBs out of the folder. Then I started "IFO Edit" and selected 'Create IFOs' and selected the first VOB, and set destination to same as source... it's running now.

              So far, so good?

I really appreciate the help... you rock!

Sweet, it's now creating DVD Video in Nero. We'll see how this goes...

Am I safe to assume once I repeat this process on all of the other DVD's I have backed up, the ones that are larger than 4.7GB can be shrunk via "DVD Shrink", and then burned as well? If that's the case is there a substantial quality loss? Any tips or advice before I get started on the rest?

                  Thanks again!

                    Logically, yes...

                          setarip...where are the VIDEO_TS?

I must be stupid, but I can't get the VIDEO_TS. I have two movies as VTS_01 and VTS_02, and I need the VIDEO_TS files. When I select the "Create IFO", it merely recreates the VTS_01_0.IFO file.

                              It's greyed out.

I saw that item, but no matter what I do...it's still greyed out. I thought at first that I had to shift + click everything, but that didn't work too.
