Just an FYI, but the "2nd PC" I used to double check my media-sanity is a Dell laptop running Windows XP Pro +SP2. It also has the latest October 25th release of Nero 6.6.0.1

I am now running some overly exhaustive virus scanning. Next I will re-install nero. Then I will take my DVD drive and perform ritualistic sacrificial services to summin the DVD-gods to support for backup efforts.

    wish me luck.

I have an email out to the manufacturer of the DVD burner drive. This is my LAST hope. If they can't fix it, then it's been nice knowing you guys.

It is quite likely that your on the right track, there but without any supporting information like a Nero log to examine there is not much else to add...

              C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\Nerohistory.text

I would check the phisical connecton to the drive, like power cables and IDE cable all the way down to the motherboard, making sure they are all in good condition and connected properly... (touch the chassis of the PC B4 touching any of the components though)

If all is well then it is worth considering a possible conflict with another program like for instance another burning program or one that has the hability to do so... But by all means dont discard the idea of a faulty drive...

About SP2 I found that in order to minimize the likelyhood of any conflicts, it is best to slipstream SP2 onto the Instalation disk for your XP... It is simple and effective...
