Burn process failed at 8x(11,080 KB/s)

This is just my second time trying to burn a DVD and I am having some issues. I keep getting this error message when attempting to burn the DVD, it analyzes and everything ok, just won't actually burn the disc. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi babyjap, Welcome to the Forum

First of all update your Nero: http://www.nero.com/en/nero-up.php

Have you burned successfully using this media before? Which brand of media is it?
....Slowing down your burn rate may also help.

      Enable your DMA:

CdRomPeripheral : BENQ DVD DD DW1620 IdeChnDr Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On
CdRomPeripheral : _NEC NR-7800A IdeChnDr Port 1 ID 1 DMA: Off

Your firmware is rather old: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1905

if when you say media you mean the type of blank DVD's I am using....actually let's just say that everything is the same, the same programs and blank DVDs. I am using TEON bought at Staples. How do I slow down my burn speed?

B7C9 is the firmware revision you are running, download the latest from the link that cynthia provided or the official firmware can be found @ http://www.benq.com/drivers/storage_drivers.html

Slow down your speed when you select burn/write on the Nero toolbar from MAX to 4X.

Not sure about those disks - a change to say, Ritek's may improve your situation.

                  Good luck

Thanks for all your help everyone! I did that firmware thing and it is working great now. Hubby is even able to do it now so it must be working a lot better (not very computer inclined)

                          @draganjr

In Nero's main write screen there is a box which gives you the choice of write speeds.

This is NOT available if you are writing directly from DVD Shrink. It always writes at maximum speed.

                          Regards

Just because it says "DMA if available", doesn't mean its using DMA. What matters is what it says in the "Current Transfer Mode" box. Screen Shot Below to clarify what I mean:

I've been having a problem similar to the one described above, i.e I can get the DVD analyzed but when it comes to burning it using Nero I get the message "Burn process failed at 2.4x (3,324 KB/s)" when I try to copy it to a DL 8.5GB RITEK (RiDisc). I get a similar message using DVD Decrypt. I've tried this on 2 DL discs both RITEK with no success. I presume that if nothing has written to the discs I can use them again if they aren't the
                              source of the problem?

I have no problems whatsover using DataWrite 4.7GB disks.

One thing I have noticed is that although in the log file it says that the CdRomPeripheral and DiskPeripheral have DMA set to On (see below)

                              === Scsi-Device-Map ===
                              CdRomPeripheral : HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4240N atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA:On
DiskPeripheral : HITACHI_DK23EB-40 atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On

when I go into the Device Manager for the Primary IDE Channel I get Current Transfer Mode: Not Applicable for Device 1 on both the Primary and Secondary IDE Channels:

                              Primary IDE Channel
                              ------------------------------

                              Device 0
                              ------------
                              Transfer Mode: DMA if available
Current Transfer Mode: Ultra DMA Mode 2

                              Device 1
                              ------------
                              Transfer Mode: DMA if available
                              Current Transfer Mode: Not Applicable

                              Secondary IDE Channel
                              -----------------------------------

                              Device 0
                              ------------
                              Transfer Mode: DMA if available
Current Transfer Mode: Ultra DMA Mode 5

                              Device 1
                              ------------
                              Transfer Mode: DMA if available
                              Current Transfer Mode: Not Applicable

If this could be the route of the problem how do I change Current Transfer Mode to Ultra Mode DMA #? Or is the problem something else?

I'm using a new Iomega Super DVD Write which should be able to handle both 4.7GB and 8.5GB discs.

I've included the log file in a later post in the same thread just in case there is something in there that may identify the problem.

                              Can anyone help?
