    Slow Burner Speeds

    Greetings All,
I'm fairly new to the field of DVD authoring / backing-up / burning so please excuse my ignorance if this is a silly question.

I bought a Pioneer DVR 109 and have mostly used DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter with much success. I kept getting a "cylcic redundency error" when backing up certain discs. I tired downloading a demo version of some DVD copying software. Well it didn't solve the problem - still got the "cyclic error".

I gave up backing up that DVD and tried (successfully) to do another using DVD Shrink and Decrypter. The new problem was that my burner only had average burn speeds of 1.3 or 1.4 x intead of 7.1x on 8x discs. Uninstalling the first offending software didn't resolve the issue nor did doing the same with Shrink and Decrypter. A total system restore to a few days earlier fixed everything.

So what did I do wrong? The problem software was DVD X Platinum from http://www.burnworld.com/software/dv...s/platinum.htm
Any help would be appreciated. Also are there any other software titles that one would recommend?

    Thanks in advance!
    Cheers,
    J.P.

A CRC error indicates that there's a problem with the physical DVD (scratched, dirty, Peanut Butter and Jelly) that DVD Shrink cannot resolve. First, try cleaning the DVD. If DVD Shrink still generates this error:

Use DVD Decrypter to "rip" the DVD to your hard drive in "File" mode - and from the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "All files" (NOT "movie files").

Then use DVD Shrink to "Open files" (NOT "Open Disk")

"A total system restore to a few days earlier fixed everything."

So do it again - back to the last time things were working properly...

        Thanks again setarip!

How would decrypter resolve the problem if the disc is damaged or dirty?
        Cheers,

Sure that your DMA is enabled?

            Cynthia, what does that mean?

Is there a learning_this_stuff_101 tutorial or site I should be reading before posting these questions?

            THanks!
            Cheers,

Thanks Cynthia! I'll need to investigate when I get home form work.

                  "Thanks again setarip!"

                  My pleasure ;>}

"How would decrypter resolve the problem if the disc is damaged or dirty?"

It WON'T resolve a disc being dirty. That's why I said, "First, try cleaning the DVD."

If the disc is only mildly marred, DVD Decrypter is more capable than is DVD Shrink of "reading through" problem areas. If the disc is deeply scratched, or otherwise severely damaged physically, you may be out of luck...

Cynthia, DMA was enable, but it was the system restore that fixed the problem. I called a phone in radio show (they had a computer techie as a guest) and the tech guy said it was likely residual .dll's from the conflicting/offending software. Apparently the uninstall program didn't uninstall everything I guess.
                        Cheers,
