Anyone know a sure DVD to AVI program?

Just like the title says. I've tried a few programs that simply did not work, and had major problems... Anyone had any success with converting DVD(.VOB) to AVI, And what programs are you using... Thanks in advance...

Actually, I just tried the Trial Version of Dr Divx, and it won't do the audio from a DVD.. Any suggestions?

the absolute BEST program (in quality and speed), in my opinion, is 'gordian knot' (NOT auto gordian knot)

completely free, quite easy to use after the first time, and best quality possible.

the guide is for version 0.28, but make sure you get the latest one (0.32.4 i think)

Use "DVD2AVI" (freeware). The program will also allow you to "Frameserve" a "Project File" (.d2v) to another program such as "Gordian Knot" for conversion to DivX or XviD.

gordian knot is a package of different software. it used to include dvd2avi, but now uses 'dgindex'. i cannot tell the difference

I like auto gk it is real simple use 2 or 3 clicks and your done. Dr divx won't pick up the audio file if you are using a Intel hyper threaded.

Simpledivx and Fairuse are both easy to use and have produced good results for me. Simpledivx is free.

Try opening an MPEG1 file in DVD2AVI. Trying single-stepping through frames in DVD2AVI. Try demuxing video in DVD2AVI. Try playing from an arbitrary point on the timeline in DVD2AVI. ...

I could go on and on.

hi there, i have a file thats to big to burn to disk.4.6 gig, so i used dvd2avi, which gave me 3 files, 2 avi and one ac3 file. when i tryed to put the 2 files together with the ac3 in vdub it gave me an error saying my ac3 couldnt not be used as it is not a wave file. any siuggestion on how i can put the audio file and the video in one.tyvm in advance.

DVDx is good too. You will have to use VirtualDub to combine the video and the WAV audio that it produces, and you can use pretty much any compression.
