I experienced 0% failure with tier one media as clean source disks.
~50% of the failures were due to dirty source disks

I usually never do OTF copying unless it first goes to the HD. I've never done a disc copy of DVD-Rs though, is it tougher than CD-Rs? I'll probably use Nero.

          dvd rewriters and disc speeds

          Hello All,
this is my first posting. My problem is this.My dvd rewriter is rated 4 speed(sonyDW-U14A) When I copy a purchased dvd to an 8 speed blank through dvd shrink it plays perfectly.(disc is verbatim dvd-r). When I attempt to copy this copy on same dvd rewriter the disc gets read o/k but when I put a blank in and try to burn you would not believe the error messages that I get! This is the same with dvd decrypter and pinnacle instant copy. I have not tried it with nero .What am I doing wrong? It's doing my head in. HELP PLEASE.

            "what am i doing wrong?"

using the copy. use THE ORIGINAL disc to make a copy. otherwise you have a better chance of finding a 3-legged ballerina than you do making a good copy, from a copy.

I've done OTF copies of a DVD with the source and burner on the same channel and had no problems. Only real problem I had was from a -r to a +r and Nero said I needed a -r to copy to. I put in a -r and no problem.

4x burners may not like 8x media, check your firmware

Coming out of the same box is irrelevant. I have purchased media where some disc's in the same box, had different MEDIA ID's.

I started with Memorex, richol/jpn, cmcmag, etc, then slowly but surely it
all went to hell, especially with plex burners, switched to FUJI, TDK, Maxell,
then they too started to have problems, then all I looked for was
                              MADE IN JAPAN!
