DVD+R vs DVD-R

Hi,

I am using a I/O Magic Dual Layer 16x DVD burner with DVD Shrink and the latest version of Nero. I have WinXP Pro SP2 with Intel P4 2.8ghz and 256MB RAM. I have found the Sony and TDK work like a charm, while Samsung and Verbatium get rejected frequently. I went through a stack of TDK DVD+R discs and didnt have any issues and there werent any wasted disks. I bought a pack of DVD-R discs and got through the first 15 or 20 discs without any problems and then I kept getting error after error. I switched to the other DVD+R discs and again didnt have any issue at all. Here is my error log:

It has been my understanding that any time there is this:

that is typically the problem, but why would I have no problem with the first part of the pack?

I made sure my firmware was up to date on my burner and everything. Can anyone help?

Yes that indicates your media isn't liked by your burner.

You are not the first person who has had problems with that burner - see here.

You are trying to change the booktype. Can't be done on an -R - see what's bitsetting in my sig.

I had a problem with that burner, and i had to return it. I bought it from Circuit City. The movies would burn, and then when i would play it back, it would freeze up at the end. I swapped it out for a Lite-On, and havent had any problems since!!!

yes lite-on is pretty good, i must say, cd and dvd burners...

So many ppl are reporting problems with this burner - it would be on my list of "never buys".

i think a lot of those problems can may be traced to issues seperate from that of the actual burner. rock on lite-on!

HOWEVER one thing i will say, their tech support is the biggest joke i have ever seen, the most useless bunch of morons ever. i was inquiring about media compatibility lists, and as i asked some basic questions nobody was consistent or had any significant knowledge.i could not a get a real answer to anything! i was quite suprised.i hope someone from lite-on sees this too!

if you do require support for a lite-on device, don't call tech support, ask your dog. you are guaranteed to get better advice.
