DVD burning Error - Unspecified target error

Hi
I've read through many of the burning problems that others are having and can't see to find one that is similar to mine. I try burning with CD-RW and it seems to be burning fine so i try burning with a DVDr and it doesn't even work. I am currently using 4x Princo DVDr media and i keep getting the error msg:

Unspecified target error
PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-108\H4 T0

I've googled this error to no avail. I've attached the error log for this. Can someone please be able to identify the problem?

Other information that might be helpful:
running win xp sp2
nero v 6.6.0.8
burner: Pioneer 108 (updated latest firmware 1.19)
DMA is enabled...

Your burner doesn't like that media, which is cheap and nasty. Upgrade to better media. See media quality and burner/media compat in my sig.

Also, how are you connecting your burner? Through a USB port? Might be better to put it on an IDE channel and turn DMA on.

burner is external, its connected through firewire (I'm on a laptop so i have an external case for the burner)

I'll go to the shops tomorrow and purchase a DVDRW tomorrow

Thanks for the tip...went out and bought a new DVDRW today (TDK DVD+RW 1-4x) and no go either

Not only did it not burn, but it won't erase either

waste of an expensive dvd...i've also attached a log

It's a RW disc - just erase it again.

Try to burn it at 2.4x speed and see what happens.

Another try could be to update the firewire drivers.

I've tried erasing the dvd rw - it won't erase so i got another one and tried burning again, it didn't burn and it WON'T erase either

Use this program: www.dvdinfopro.com

That should make your RW to be formatted/erased.

Or your Nero Burning Rom. Recorder --> Erase rewitable disk. Should take 15 seconds.

Yes, i've been doing that with nero but it keeps saying:
Pioneer DVD RW DVR-108:
this disc is not rewritable and therefore can not be erased.
Please insert a rewritable disc.

What's the media ID code on your TDK RWs? But they should be recognised. You have not burned any DVDs yet?

Might be a hardware problem or as cynthia suggested, update your drivers.

all the drivers are updated...I'll try and hook it up to someone elses computer and see if its causing so much drama too...

media code? It was RICOHJPNW11...i returned them and got some verbatim ones instead...Verbatim DVD-RW 4x Datalifeplus which still doesn't work either. Its none eraseable after the burning error....it says that its erased ok in dvdinfopro but once i try to erase in nero the same error comes up. I think the burner is totally stuffed or something...

Those TDKs are the same as mine and they are definitely RWs. Somethings badly wrong with your burner. Return it and get something else.
