Panic over!! I think I stumbled on the answer. I needed to select "Execute" from the Blank menu option on the toolbar. The instruction to "Process" through me a little. I'm not knocking the guide I'd be lost without it. Just lack of knowledge on my part.

I PM'ed you LB. Hope you got it working. Remember to process ALL VTSs and blank out the stuff you don't want/need on each separately.

Remember, you can't go wrong - your input data is always in the ripped folder. Use 2 new folders - Disk 1 and Disk 2. Just blank them out so they fit reasonably well. The get rid of crap like studio promos/FBIs.

At the end of disk 1, you can use a little "closing clip" - see disk 2 to continue - see my sig for "cool insert clips". You can use PgcEdit to add the closing clip. It's all in a macro and is automated for you. Looks very snazzy.

I think I did ok with VobBlanker, I'm struggling with MenuEdit though (the free version). There's no instructions on what you are supposed to do. I managed to load a menu up (green screen background). I stumbled on how to delete a menu button, click on button with mouse and press "D" on the keyboard. Little window pops up with the option "Remove from Menu." My problem is I don't know how to save the changes I have made to the menu. What keyboard button do I need to press? So the changes I make are accepted and the menu is amended?

It's 2.10am and I just can't leave this alone. Help...

To recap: The VobBlanker processed disks will work just fine with NO menu processing - the bit at the end of the guide linked to in my previous post (marked Optional) simply makes the chapters go quickly to the next available one when disk 2 is inserted.

Re: Menuedit. It doesn't actually tell you to use Menuedit, I think caused I'd already downloaded the software I just started messing with it. PgcEdit looks cool though!!

At this stage the only thing I wanted to do was to remove or disable the buttons from the menu to the chapters that were no longer on the disk. For example chapters 1&2 are on disk one so I only want the buttons for chapters 1&2 to be working. Chapters 3&4 are on disk 2 so I only wanted buttons 3&4 on disk 2.

I don't want get anymore advanced till I manage to do that. I managed it (by accident) with Menuedit but no idea how I did it. Pgcedit looks a safer option. I should still be in bed but I can't sleep thinking about this stuff

NP LB. Easy to do. In PgcEdit, click on your PGC with the chapter menu buttons, go to the menu editor (ctrl-M) and right click on a button to be deleted and in the menu select Hide Button - Jump to non-deleted button.

Easy peezy. Save and play to test. Can't go wrong. PgcEdit saves your old menu for you in the backup folder (Menuedit never did that!).

Good morning (at least it is here). Thanks for that. Is there an idiots guide to PgcEdit anywhere? To do this follow these instructions etc. The software looks fantastic, I had a quick look at the help but I think it may be a little too complicated for me to understand at this stage.

I'm happy to read up on stuff (screen dumps always help me with guides). I feel I'm becoming a bit of a nuisance so I wanna knock it on the head by calming down and spending time trying to learn. If there's reading material specifically about PgcEdit then it would be great. I don't wanna keep coming back at every stage. I should be trying to self teach (with guides) instead of relying on you every 2 minutes (I think you've performed above and beyond the call of duty now blutach).

Unfortunately, no. There are a number of guides on r0lZ's site, the documentation file explains what each option does, r0lZ and others (like the great mpucoder) are ALWAYS at doom9 and if you really want some crummy advice, you can ask me.

I think it would be good if Digital Digest opened an editor's forum or maybe merged something like that in with authoring, where we DVD tinkerers could hang around - it is an art, way different to shrinking or ripping or burning or converting.

IMHO, self-teaching is the best way - it will take time, so take it a step at a time, and remember, we are here to help. You ask away, and I will assist, if I can (and without puffing out my chest thinking I am such a big man, like others I know).

Remember also, you can't break ANYTHING. You've got backup folders, which have IFOs and VOBs and you can even do an incremental backup, which saves things anew, so you don't have to go back to square one with your project.

Once you've got this splitting project out of the way, why don't you start by just learning what the prog does? Play around with the commands, double click on the PGCs, look at replacing a few cells, blank some titlesets and menus, find the unreferenced material, learn the trace function, run a jump to PGC to bypass all the start up crap etc.

nwg will have an opinion on this as well - he has become a PgcEdit/VobBlanker master in a very short time, and can also assist you.

Best of luck to you LB - don't be afraid to tinker. You never know, by the time you lose the Ashes again in a few weeks, you will probably be a master at this.

Thanks blutach, I'm still tinkering. I'll pose another question then if I may. Once I have an understanding of the basics I do intend to tinker and learn more. PgcEdit looks quite daunting though, to be honest I don't really know what I'm looking at most of the time.

My Question is this: I managed to split the movie onto 2 disks (4 chapters, 2 on each disk). The first disk went perfectly well, disabled the other two buttons, you select either of the first 2 chapters and hey presto they play. The second disk is not working out that way. I disabled the first 2 buttons and just left buttons 3&4 for chapters 3&4. For some reason, whenever you select either chapter 3 or 4 using the buttons chapter 3 loads. The button for chapter 4 loads up chapter 3. You can get to the chapter by skipping but I don't understand why button 4 suddenly doesn't take you to chapter 4. I'm assuming there is a way to look at the button properties and fix it so that chapter 4 loads with button 4 like it's supposed to? Same way as it works on the original DVD? I also assume it's an easy fix? But nothigs easy when you don't know the answer.

I also know you said to test what I've done with the menu's before burning but I can't seem to do that either. At the moment however I just want the buttons fixed. What do I need to look out for to ensure button 4 is linked to chapter 4 and how do I fix it.

I've come along way since I started this thread but I have much to learn. Enjoying it though, so many things you can do to manipulate the DVD, excellent. Thanks. Ashes, I stick with Rugby League. I'm starting to think you may be tempting fate with the ashes though, you're so confident it just might backfire. Might nip down the bookies and have a little bet.

Ok just to update the thread if anyone is interested. I managed to work out my problems with the buttons via pgcedit. Basically for buttons 1&2 I went to the Hide button option and selected "Leave Original Command." This disabled the buttons but also ensured that buttons 3&4 remained as chapters 3&4, result!!

Now it's time to look at adding a closing clip as per blutach's earlier post. After that I'm gonna move onto a more challenging movie, one with extra's etc. I chose a simple movie to start off with (only chapter selection). One step at a time I figured.

If anyone thinks I can help them, let me know.

Way to go LB. Sorry, I didn't get back to you earlier. Normally, you need do nothing to the chapter menu buttons, but it's good that you're playing around.

To test your edits, a software player is good - PowerDVD, Showtime, etc.

I do recommend you become a member at doom9, as there are lots of folks there to answer your questions - most of them, far advanced than I.

I have got PowerDVD and I tried using it to test, I must've done something wrong with the test cause the menu didn't load up (it burned to disk ok though). Now I know it is PowerDVD you use I'm sure I can figure it out. I just selected everything from the folder to play. Must've missed something

Had a quick look at the insert clip site. No actual guide on how to do it using PgcEdit though. Haven't had a chance to look at it properly so perhaps it's not as complicated as it appears! I'm back in work so I can't mess around with it until this evening.

I'll certainly consider signing up to Doom9. You seem to know all the answers though. Don't reckon I'll get to a stage where I'm asking questions you can't answer.

I'm a WinDVD user but you should simply 'play from folder' pointing to the folder above the VIDEO_TS folder.

In PowerDVD, press the letter O twice and navigate to where your VIDEO_TS is and press OK. PowerDVD will play the DVD.

If you have PowerDVD v6, it associates IFOs with itself and you can double click any IFO to start the DVD.
