Need help...Getting a burning error w/shrink plus nero

    Hello,

I was previously able to burn backup DVDs without issue with Shrink + Nero. However, recently I have been getting an error message and I am not sure what is causing it. For background -- it seems to be for all DVDs. I cannot back Bourne Supremacy, Grudge or virtually any other. I have tried using DVD Decrypter to rip first. And I have tried VOB Blanker to take out the copy protection. Nothing seems to work.

    I have following rig:

    Intel P4 2.8 ghz
    Abit TH7II Raid
    2 x 256MB Samsung PC800
    Nvidia 6800
    Maxtor HDDs (60 gb x 2)
NEC ND-2500A DVD Burner (I have tried updating the firmware -- and flashing in 2510A upgrade -- no affect)

    Please help

I have cut and pasted the entire log as I am not sure what is relevant:

Hi and welcome to the forum, terrell1906!

Disable the checkbox in the Backup section of DVD Shrink 'Book type DVD-ROM'.

The media code of your brand of discs is not supported by the firmware. Either try to install a modified firmware that supports your Ritek discs and/or try to burn at 4x speed.

@cynthia - When I use -r media in my Lite-On's, shrink has the burn as dvd-rom greyed out. It looks like he has the book type selected in the EEPROM of his NEC. Will the NEC booktype -r media to dvd-rom?

      Thanks

If it's greyed out, then there's no worry. It means you can't set or unset it.

NEVER try to set a -R to DVD-ROM.

blutach Yup, I know but in his log it says

          Book Type request [NEC]: DVD-ROM
Book Type setting not supported for the loaded disc type
Changing the Book Type was finished with error, return code -4

and he is using -r media

          Recorder: _NEC DVD_RW ND-2510A, Media type: DVD-R

I was just wondering if he modded his firmware to do the bookset at dvd-rom and that is why it didn't work. I'm not familiar with NEC's and with the LiteOn's shrink is smart enuff to grey it out.

Means it didn't change the booktype.

But yes, it should be unticked for -R, if it isn't greyed out.

No - His/Her drive is probably capable of bitsetting DVD+Rs (NOT all burners have this capability), so he/she probably selected it from within NERO - even though a DVD-R cannot be bitset...

(Kinda like trying to find 6 more Mb on a DVD+R ;>})

@setarip _ Yeah, theres a couple programs for the LiteOn's (Omnipatcher and Kprobe to set the booktype. I normally use -r media for compatability purposes so I don't hafta worry bout it much.

There's them tech guys again..why not just have it say at the beginning "Yo! Ya can't set -r to dvd-rom"
And I thought shrink had the capability to bookset but was smart enuff to see there was a -r in the drive. I just tried to burn a +r with shrink and nero and the burn as dvd-rom had the check box checked but it was greyed out. Same as it is when I use -r

                Learned something else again today.

Now wheres that 6 more Mb, where did it go ? Yup some of my DVD's have 4.35GB free space some others 4.38
                Compatability....just like them tech writers

This is my first burning with my Nec 3520 - as you can see we have the same try to use bitsetting/book mark on a -R disc. This 'feature' can be deselected in the option menu in Nero. Obviously it's turned on as default. Original firmware from Nec don't handle bitsetting. So the error codes given in his burning log is not the cause of the problems - as you can see in my log i didn't get a real burning error due to this 'feature'.

This is my first burning using Fuji -R 8X media - the problem is that the firmware don't recognize the media - uses a generic write strategy. So goodbye Fuji.
