with the same media, you may not be able to. with decent media 4x is a perfectly safe burning speed. it's all i use and my discs are flawless...

Let me just explain my problem again.i used to be able to copy cd's at 4x speed minimum because i don't like burning faster than 8x speed because i heard it causes errors sometimes,but now it only lets me copy cds at 8x minimmum and i don't like burning faster than 4x speed.BTW I would like to actually burn at 2x speed but it doesn't let me

Maybe this will help, burning a cd-r at 8x is VERY SAFE! CD and DVD
burning speeds use a different scale. 8x cd burning is 8/2 x 300KB/s
= 1.2MB/s, very slow, equivalent to burning dvd's at 1x.
Of course if you have a very old computer, more than 5-6 years,
it might be an issue.
