        Found this one another board:

Hello, I had the same with a LG 4182B with Nero.

NOTE: This is only valid if you updated to sp2 recently or installed windows xp with sp2 included.

        --- Step 1 --- DISABLE IMAPI ---
Open Control Panel, then open Administration Tools (advanced mode of Control Panel) and open Services.

Locate "IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service", and disable it.

        --- Step 2 --- REMOVE NERO ---
Open Control Panel, then Add/Remove Programs, select Nero then press Remove.

        --- Step 3 --- INSTALL LATEST ASPI DRIVERS ---
        Adaptec ASPI Drivers Downlaod

Then Unzip and Install (Run aspiinst.exe)

        Then Reboot your computer

        --- Step 4 --- REINSTALL NERO ---
Do I really need to explain this?

This should work, if not find another solution LOL

when you hit back-up, look under the burn settings tab, is "book type dvd-rom" ticked?

as a side note: with that media i'd burn no higher than 4x.

do you have a log by chance still of a successful burn with that media?

the least recent are the highest in nerohistory.log

"by using dvd+r disks........would that solve the problem?"

i might....but you shouldn't have to do this.

indeed, everyone who burns dvd's should have at least one.

for some reason nero is requesting book type change to +. try a + disc to see if you get a successful burn if you can't get a rw+

                              "Media type: DVD-R
                              Disc Manufacturer: CMC MA - G. AE1"

that would explain your problem if you just started using the (-) discs, from the + type....
