You should be able to find a later firmware than the current one 1.40.

There was a similar problem in this thread: http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=50858

      "Media type: DVD+R
      Disc Manufacturer ID: CMC MAG"
These are very low quality disc. Switch a better more reliable brand of blank media such as Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden.

      "Burn process started at 8x (11,080 KB/s)"
Burn at 2X. If that works try 4X. I recommend not burning any faster than 4X, specially with cheap media.

      "Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR)"
A sign of "cheap low quality" media being used. It is irrelevant if you have successfully used it before. Their quality control (meaning how the make every disc) is unreliable and not every disc is the same quality.

      "File 'Drivers\PXHELP20.SYS': Ver=2.03.10a, size=20576 bytes, created 7/13/2004 3:03:00 AM (Prassi/Veritas driver for win 2K)"
Do you have "RecordNow" installed on your system?

You're very welcome! Glad I could help.

RecordNow is a burning program from Veritas software.

            My Mistake

Yes I do have RecordNow...Do you think that is part of the problem? I am obviously dumb when it comes to these things. I Also had no luck trying to burn @ 2X speed. I am going to go get the media you recomended today but I was curious because I have also gotten error messages that have said something to the effect of "Power Allocation Error" is it possible my DVD burner is just spent/broken? I'm using a brand new Toshiba laptop. Thanks once again for any help you can offer it is very much appreciated.

PS Unfortunately there weren't any Firmware updates.

Uninstall "RecordNow" and try burning again.

Did the error message say "Power Calibration Error"?

                  I had the same problem

I went through quite a few dvds until I started investigated the problem via google, I upgraded to Nero Ultra edition and I needed to download the newest firmware to my dvd burner. Go to the website of the dvd burner's manufacturer and see if they have new firmware like the previious post said. fixed my problem, thank goodness.

                    @frustratedCHRIS

jmet is right with the "power calibration error" as these sense data from your logfile interprets to that. Don't know why it didn't say it.

                    Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR)
                    Sense Code: 0x73
                    Sense Qual: 0x03
Anyways, here's a relevant thread. It has the same sense data as what you got. And what makes this thread special is that Mr. Craig Campbell (aka ccampbell), a AHEAD/NERO Customer Support Team Representative, gives his "2 cents" and it worked in that thread. Perhaps, we can learn from this.
