    CdRomPeripheral : LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1633S atapi Port 1 ID 1 DMA: Off

fix the DMA then try again, otherwise try sony dvd-r discs at 2x or 4x.

I don't know why it is saying off I have

      Primary IDE channel

      device 0: DMA if available

      ultra DMA Mode 5

      device 1: DMA if Available

      Not applicable

      Secondary IDE channel

      Device 0: Dma if available

      Ultra DMA mode 2

      Device 1 DMA if Available

      PIO Mode.

Now I have up to date firmware, I have tried switching the master and the slave, I dunno what or how to do the BIOS thing. we discovered through earlier trouble shooting the secondary device 1 doesn't switch from PIO mode. I am almost out of hope is it the Burner that is bad or is there anything else you guys can help me with? do I need to reformat =(

DMA needs to be turned on. Your burner is still in PIO mode. "atapi Port 1"= "Secondary IDE Channel" and "ID 1" = "Device 1".

          Relevant information.

Personally, CMC MAG is not so good. I'm a authentic Taiyo Yuden person myself. Though reputable users claim it works flawlessly for them.

Here is a scan of a burn I did on my 1633s with the BSOS fw using CMC MAGE01 media. I don't remember the burn speed 4x or 8x but it looks good.

Media compatability all lies in the burner and it's firmware.

It's not a good idea to have a dvd burner slaved to a lesser drive.
Try disconnecting the dvd-rom drive and connect end of cable to burner and
jumper as master, then do the dma fix as specified by LT and blu!
Some drives will never share a cable, I have had computers that wouldn't even boot with 2 drives made by the same company.

                  maybe similar problem

I'm attempting to just ask a question potentially similar to this one already without having to start a new post. DVD Decrypter does its thing fine, loads into shrink fine but when it goes to burn and analyze the disc or "checking" the disc it freezes and I have to try restarting the computer. I've used shrink for over 75 movies so far and all of a sudden its screwed. I'm running a Taiyo yuden media with a plextor 708-A. I tried grabbing the log from nero but it enver gets that far in the burning process to even start one. does anyone have any suggestions? I'll try updating my firmware etc for my drive but I've tried that a while back and it still does it.

                  hope someone can help.

                  thanks.

put the burner as master, leave the other drive disconnected

fix dma and see if it stays fixed

You are trying to isolate a problem by eliminating variables.

I am also having trouble burning with nero

I am a new user of dvd shrink and nero. Everything seems to work great until nero starts writing the lead out. It seems to try to burn the lead out but then I have the following problem. Any advice would be wonderful. Thank you in advance!!

                            Thanks so much Lt. Columbo

I updated nero and slowed the burn speed. Everything is working out great so far. Was too much of a dummy to update the firmware so thank goodness I didn't have to. Thanks again.

Updating the firmware could allow you to burn at faster speeds if you wanted to. Some people are satisified at 4x or 2x.
