Phone 'em and ask for the MID Code. Hopefully, you will encounter someone who is not a total dweeb and can tell you.
Chewy's advice is strong with the force though. Not too late to ask Santa for a box of nice Verbatims!

I got some Verbatim DVD-R Data Life Plus from Newegg and the label says Made in Taiwan. The MID is MCC 02RG20, which I now know to be Mitsubishi.
Do they have a factory in Taiwan? They work great!
Forgot to mention, $22.99 including shipping for 50 discs. Beats the ___ out of BB.Comment

I finally got into a thread over at cdfreaks that discussed the verbatim
disks in great detail, Verbatim seems to be the one company(owned by
MitsubishiChemCorp?) which has outsourced it's production offshore
and retained quality. In europe disks are coming from India(few bad reports),
most are made in Tawain by (get this) CMC MAG and Prodisk, the prodisk's
are slightly better. If it's got the verbatim name, you have bought as good as it gets, the one other company with this same quality control is TayioYuden, they make disks for a lot of companies including sony.
When you buy brand x and it says MIJ(made in japan) today, chances are
it's TY(Tayio Yuden) Unfortunately no store employee I have ever met
even knew what a MID was.
"Memorex makes their own disks! "
I gave up.
If you want a deal on japanese media and can't get to the store for a sale,
then order TY online.(DVD-R's)Comment
