I reccomend stocking up on the 8x discs before they stop making them - because at least in Memorex, the 8x are way better than the 16x.

When you go to http://www.bestbuy.com The menu on the left side of the screen that's in yellow that says This week. In the column that says "This Week" there are links to different specials BestBuy has to offer "This Week". Click on "Weekly Ad" - a window pops up asking you for your zip code so it knows which area you'd be shopping from, when you type in your area code, it will bring you to your local BestBuys advertised specials for that week. There's a pretty simple formula for buying good dvd media, look for verbatim
or made in japan. That's not to say there aren't other good blanks from India, tawain or elsewhere, but you're gambling.

I've had great success with Staples DVD-Rs and DVD+Rs. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone, but I've had no issues with them. I picked up a couple 50 packs for 9.99 each. When I play them on my standalone DVD player to view them on my 47" HDTV, I can't tell the difference between them and Verbatims. But if I do one of them scans through Neros Disc Quality test, WOW, I can't believe they even play because they only come out with a quality score of 18 to 23. The Verbatims come out on top with scores always above 95. Just thought I'd share my results.

What speed are you burining at? What burner/firmware? I burn them at 8x to 12x on my NEC3540 with 1.W8 and get 90+.

You need to establish a bit of rapport with them, get talking with the proprietor etc. Best Buy/CompUSA/Circuit City won't be the one to go for. You need a guy that wants to sell disks to you and even has a little time to discuss what you think is best etc.

When I bought my first batch of Verbs MKM-001s (DLs), pcx.com.au were kind enough to do a MID Code check before I bought. They guaranteed the MIC that I would get and gave me a money back offer (incl postage). Needless to say, they came and were perfect and of course, not a coaster. Of course, they were $$$ cheaper than elsewhere too. Not bad I reckon.

Finding the supplier is the trick though.

The biggies here in the USA(online suppliers) are all starting to list mid codes
for their better media. You have to watch NewEgg as their cheaper crap
will switch on you.
But if you can get verbatim(MIT) or Sony(MIJ) or Fugi(MIJ) dvd+R's
for 30C locally why fool with online at all?
Once you bitsett and see how they play on anything, it's hard to go back to
dvd-r's.

Well it was hard to resist those 200 TYG01's to the door with sleeves for
29C a disk(sleeves run me 5C). I had been using dvd+r's without bitsetting
and having a few compatibility problems on older players. Bitsetting
made all the difference in the world, testing the burns on those ridata ritek's
I got from newegg almost killed any use of dvd+r's, verbs and sony saved
the day for +R, it's just nicer to get an occasional 99QS.

His are probably old stock, it all the new stuff(16x) they are overramping
production on that seems to be going to heck in handbasket.

My R03's from over a year ago still play fine and scan good.

From what seems to be the norm, 8x media is going out of production.

Chewy you are so right, cause I bought a 100 pack of the memorex 16x dvd-r at Thanksgiving time and they turned out to be 4th class CMC for $30, so I took them back yesterday and bought 3-50 packs of Verbatims @ $15 each. The Verbatims turned out to be 1st class MCC.

Yes, that is what I am saying. The 8x Memorexes are WAYYYYYYYYY better than the 16x. If you want cheap Memorexes, head to Wal-Mart, but HURRY, as after just one day, their supply was half of what it was before.
