The biggies here in the USA(online suppliers) are all starting to list mid codes
for their better media. But if you can get verbatim(MIT) or Sony(MIJ) or Fugi(MIJ) dvd+R's
for 30C locally why fool with online at all?
Once you bitsett and see how they play on anything, it's hard to go back to
dvd-r's.

Chewy, I went to here http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm, and I did not see any of the mid codes you meantion, can you please explain? Also, is there a thread about bitsetting, I don't know what that does or if it is needed. Thanks, Wookies rule!!

Yes, that is what I am saying. The 8x Memorexes are WAYYYYYYYYY better than the 16x. If you want cheap Memorexes, head to Wal-Mart, but HURRY, as after just one day, their supply was half of what it was before.

Yes, but are they any good? I was just at Best Buy two days ago, and the cheapest 50 pack was 20 bucks, and they were like some 3rd class brand. So unless you have local savings, I am not sure that Best Buy has cheap ones.

Hopefully folks will pick up that brand is usually meaningless. Even Verbs have some CMC MIDs.

I really get a laugh when I see someone telling me that such and such a brand is great - especially "these are lousy but the same brand in lower speed are great". The only thing that matters is the quality of the disk - and that is up to the manufacturer, NOT the marketer.

What speed are you burining at? What burner/firmware? I burn them at 8x to 12x on my NEC3540 with 1.W8 and get 90+.

I try to burn everything as slow as I can and with questionable media I'll burn them on my TDK 420N at 4x. The firmware version is 13A. The media is manufactured by CMC and the code comes out as CMC MAG E01. Like I said previously, the DVD views fine and I was surprised by the quality score Neros quality test gave them, that's all. If you're finding you're having great sucess with them, well that's great. I'm happy with them also. I just wouldn't recommend them to anyone that's all.

No, using the TDK burner to scan discs I burnt on the TDK burner @ maximum. I scan the discs I burn on the burners they've been burnt on. Discs I burn on the Sony get scanned on the Sony. Discs I burn on the Memorex burner get scanned on the Memorex. I crazy too with burners and computers.

It seems for the most part of the scans the discs do fine, but the 1 or 2 PI error spikes into the 250-350 range kill the score quality dramatically. I have gotten quality scores in the 90 range with the staples DVDs. But like I said, I wouldn't recommend these discs and the only reason I bought them was for the price, 50 DVDs for $9.99 US. If they were going for 14.99 or 19.99, I would pass.

scan the same disk, (a good burn at 8x with the liteon on premium media),
in both burners, max scans are never reliable, scan at 4x.
who made the tdk?

i am calibrating my nec 3550 right now with the same method.
