I like disconnecting any slave drive sharing the same cable so the burner is
standalone master

I do it from safe mode so any ide drivers(such as buggy nvidia/they omitted)
aren't loaded

have drive empty

nec firmwares don't have region free or bitsetting for dvd+r's

well, i have a problem with the nec-3550 and burning dvds to work in the ps2.
i can burn cd based ps 2 games fine, but the dvd ps2 games don't run most of the time. they act like they will when they're inthe ps2 but they boot to a black sceen, while with the same image my lg superwriter burns the same image and works.
i use cheap media but the lg likes the cheap media and maybe the nec doesn't but then why can i burn a data dvd with the nec and have it read and stuff all normal.
i have 1y6 latest liggy and dee firmware, and even that didn't fix it.

got any ideas team?

some say good -R burned slowly, I don't do games

you might try finding an old copy of record now, back when veritas had it, it will copy exactly many things but i haven't tested it out on games.
