Too bad Chewy already showed that a good reader can't give informations regarding a media quality.

Only coupling the scan with the transfer rate test we can obtain informations on a media.

And Chewy made me want to add also a LG burner to my drives

true, but quality means being able to playback the media wihtout any problems now and in years to come

      we'll see about that ^_~

As somebody named Dee just said, paraphrased:
The nec 3500 still reigns supreme for dvd-r burns
        , but if it's a good reader
a transfer test is meaningless, no matter what Dee says!

        but then as LT says

        TECHNOLIGICAL OVERKILL

        with all due respect

I agree: a very good reader will be able to read also a damaged disc.

A transfer rate test will be reliable only if reader is very picky about media. A smooth curve with a really picky reader is surely sign of a good burn.

I know for a fact I burning it at 4X, cause that was the top speed for my Sony DRU-510A.

Think that was 1 of my first burns ever as I didn't know what I was doing cause I used "Still Pictures" for the menu. It looks like dog poo!

I have a question, in my nero speed:
If I have 1 PI error it will say 98, 2 = 95, 3 is 93 and 4 is 90. Is it some thing my nero is not set up the same or is it just from my burner is not nec?

                        Thanks Geno888

CD-DVD Speed calculate Quality Score differently according on burner used to scan, because different burners use different methods to do scans

                          Pickyest are liteon

one more question: if I buy a NEC, and use my old dvd to check on it, is the quality will base on the lighton or the NEC?

                            Thanks Chewy

@geno actually the liteon fanboys critisize the benq's for being too picky
                              I like picky

@nighttran liteons have a smaller scan range, need to be run at 4x on scan
the quality score adjusts for that

the same disk scanned in 2 different scanners(good ones) will have similar quality scores

I have been reading this tread with great interest. When I have used Nero DVD Speed USUALLY the transfere rate it pretty good. The PI ERRORS can be anything from 75 to 1600 BUT on all the discs I have ever checked I have NEVER had any PI FAILIURES or any JITTER. Looking at the samples within this tread that seems a but strange. Am I using it correctly ? I can't see how there can be any way not to. My burner is AOpen 1648 or 1608 ( I can't remember). I have used different sorts of discs, at the moment Ritek but I think they are Tiwian, although these days even these could be fake. I just buy what they have at the local computer shop.
