Howdy,
Received a new Sony DRX-800UL external drive for xmas as my old Sony DRU-510A was starting to konk out. So I uninstalled my old Nero and installed the new Nero V 6.6.0.14 and started backing up around 10 or 15 of my discs that my old burner would not recognize any more. I hadn't had a chance to watch any of the backups and didn't think anything of it as the old burner burned flawlessly. So when my daughter came home from university and watched 3 of the backed up movies and they all started freezing an hour or so into the movie........ So I updated the firmware from KYO4 to KYO6 from the sony download section, backed up the flawed disc again with DVDShrink and burned another copy using the new burner with the same end result. It started freezing at pretty much exactly the same point. So I ran that point of the movie using the same files in DVDShrink preview window and it played flawlessly so I figured that DVDShrink wasn't the culprit. So I then burned another disc with the same files using my old DRU-510A and watched prior to the point of where the initial discs were freezing and it played flawlessly right through to the end..... I'm using the firewire connection and in Nero Burning Rom it sees the burner as a DRU-800A which is the sister internal version of the external burner I have. I'm not sure what else to check or do The new burner is burning the media at 4x as that's the max for the media I have right now because that's all the old burner can handle. Is there anything else I should look into? Just an extra note, Device manager shows the new drive as a Sony iLINK DRIVE IEEE 1394 SBP2 DEVICE so that all looks okay to me. My box is a 1.7G w/ 768M SDRam which should be sufficient. The only thing I can say different about the two is that the new burner seems to burn the 4X discs faster than the old burner although I can't say that for sure. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Max
