    Do CD-R's have MIDs?

Just curious, because I have used really cheap discs with no problem - and I want to be sure that I am not sacrificing quality for money. (I just bought 100 KHypermedias for 10 bucks)

Yes, but latest versions of cd-dvd speed don't show it. Look at the image below.

There are some old softwares that show CD mediacode, but their mediacode database is not anymore updated

    MediaCode Identifier 1.63
    Attached Files

Does it matter, though, if you use cheap-@$$ media?

Usually to use too cheap media it matter because you risk to obtain bad burns and short durability in time.

One of the reason for which CD databases are not updated anymore is that there are not many new CD types, because most of newer media are DVDs. So I think that also if this program is rather old it should be good anyway.

But just for general things, like computer backup, would it be fine? If you didn't need it to last 50 years or something?

Are KHypermedias any good? They better be cuz I just bought 100 of them

Sorry, I don't know these media: never seen here in Italy, so I'm not able to answer

You can do a little test: take a disc in one hand and if you can see through the disc (i.e if the disc is almost transparent) the media is of very poor quality. If the disc is totally opaque, it should be rather good.

You can also burn one of these discs and do a scan with cd-dvd speed.

You can sort of see through it, but only where the lines are to write on. Otherwise it is semi-reflective.

I did a Create Data CD mode in Nero CD/DVD Speed and it looked fine.

Actually you can see through the whole thing.

Oh well, should I sell them?

They are just sooo cheap, and have worked fine the last 100 I got.

In my personal experience semitransparent discs are of very low quality. I was forced to reburn all of them with quality media because they becomed unreadable after very short time.

But I don't know KHypermedias because I never see these in Italy, so I can't answer, sorry

How come I have never had any problems with these after about 100 of them, both with data and audio?

Maybe your media are better than mine. As I said I never used KHypermedias. Mine were unbranded, and almost completely transparent.

Right now I use only Taiyo or verbatim discs. Also Philips, Sony and TDK discs are high quality media in my experience, but media available here in Italy are different from media available in USA.

Try to test a disc after a month or so. And most of all, store these discs away from sunlight

I have 1-year old KHypermedias that work fine. But they are stored in a CD Binder that is completely away from the sun... maybe that helps?

Also, Verbatim CD-R's are VERY expensive here... almost as much as cheap DVD+Rs.

I bought a box of 100 Taiyo for €25.99 (about 31 USD) on an online store here in Europe
