Testing the Benq 1650 and more

Hi gonwk
I'll try to answer your questions
1) What Brand?
As I said before, good media is not avaliable here, I've tried lots of low quality media like Princo, Optodisc, Imation, Memorex, etc brands, the media itself are fake of whatever you can imagine.
I settled with Benq -R 8x (SONY08D1 if I remember correctly) but then the batch changed and the new ones sucked, producing increasing errors at the end of the disc.
I am using Benq + R (DAXON AZ2) now with reasonable success, reading compatability in the players is high.
2) Rated Speed?
Most 8x some less at the begining of times, never saw 16x media in Uruguay till now.
3) What Speed did you burn it at?
Tried every speed, you'll laugh but what gives me the best results is burning the 8x Benq+R at 12x.
Usually lower speeds give me worst burns.
4) Which program did you use to burn it with?
Decrypter and Nero.
Nero at 12x with the 8x Benq +R is the best combination I found till now.
Usually Nero is called form DVDShrink when none or very very little compression is needed, if not I use DVDRebuilder/CEE + Decrypter or Nero
5) How long did you have this burned dvd "stored", before replay?
Hours to days.
For the record, my burner is a Pioneer 108 (tried almost every firmware available in the web) and my DVD players are a quite old Pioneer 414 and Denons 2900, 3910 and S-301.
Regards
Gustavo

the nec's are the best I have run into at burning a usable disk with crap media, my old pioneer 105's did a good job also

Hi folks,
@ Chewey, can you "EDIT" iffy posts ... like the rent portion of gvera?
@ gvera, thanks for the answers. I am not a guru in this area ... but what I would do if I were you 1) If you can get a BenQ1640 or BenQ1650. 2) you can almost use any crapy media to burn. 3) get "Imgburn" program. 4) try backing up first to an "ISO" file then 5) use Imgburn to burn to your media. 6) burn at 8X speed.

Hi Gvera & Nighttran,
@ Nighttran, you know I have a BenQ1640 ... and it is still live and kicking ... but I wonder If I should get me 1650/1655 ...
If I don't care for the "Lightscribe" ... since I don't plan to cough up the price for their blanks ... I wonder if 1655 is any better than the 1650 ... you know even though both have same chipset ... sometimes one machine is built a little better ... or is this my misconception!?!?!?
BTW, Thanks ... for the "Sale" heads up.
Thanks,

I would pay twice the price of the 55 for the 40, but you got to know that burner are different from one to another even they are the same model, you have to burn the same batch and same source to test out which one is best for what brand + - and others..., I spend alot more time scanning out side ( external ) before I put them in my computer
I hope that helpsigpicComment

This is my second burn with my new BenQ DW1655 using Recode and Burning Rom....and it's supposed to get better? I was at nearly 50% before I got my first PI hit.Attached Files
