    who releases firmware updates?
    What I meant was;

    why does the benq site not have the most recent updates? You would think that the manufacture would have them...

    I use DVDD or IMGburn to check the firmware vers., & that is how I noticed that Benqs' site was outdated...

      which benq site? There are lame sites all over the world for a lot of companies, often way out of date. Even our official firmware site is full of broken links. This idea of using dvdd or imgburn to update your firmware
      is broken. Keeping one site updated is hopeless with firmware changing so often.

                When scanning with the BenQ I have more options than I did with my NEC, what would be the situation where you would scan 8X P-CAV. I my real question is what does P-CAV mean, versus just an 8X scan?

                  chewy; have been viewing threads on another forum, & they keep making references to this:
                  Writing strategy of BCHB Firmware seems to be very very bad!!!
                  Have you heard anything about that? They all talk about going back to BCDB. I can't say that my burns have been bad with the BCHB - I am turning out some of the best ones yet, since using ty & good verbs!

                    katz, many people switch around, burn one disk and come to a conclusion
                    half of them don't even know how to flash or build a computer

                        I should stop hanging out in "dark" places...

                        chew, I fould this - what do you think?
                        Liteons are UDMA4 whereas BenQs are UDMA2.
                        Meaning BenQ's are limited to slower transfer rate speeds?

                          yes dma cripples them to only 33MB/s or 24X burn speed, the liteons
                          with dma 4 are twice as fast at 66MB/s or 48X dvd burn speed

                          of course since optical drives have already reached the threshold of rpm's,
                          I am not sure I want to be in the room when you spin a liteon up 3 times faster.

                          now the burst from a 2 meg cache would last how long at 33 or 66 MB/s ?

                            what about a SATA DVDR drive; any experience with those? your thoughts?

                            specs from a $90 plextor;

                            data transfer rate -
                            CD Family: 7200 KB/s
                            DVD Family: 21600 KB/s

                            huh? that's slower than udma2?

                            guess we need a bigger software buffer...

                              the plextor specs are real specs not burst across interface specs like
                              sata 1 of 150MB/s

                              ide is being phased out, serial will take over even dvd burners, no more pio
                              mode, serial/sata is a better bus.

                              external serial hard drives work just as good as internal ones, we still need
                              external dvd serial burners, they will come!

                                would a sata burner(s) connected to a RAID controller card be a good idea/setup?
