    Hi folks,

Can anyone speculate why the BenQ 1650/1655 OEM supply all of a sudden has dried up at the "Regular" places?

Is it possible that BenQ is planning to come up with some newer brand?

benq optical division was bought by liteon, european distribution is ceasing.

looks like the scan future is going liteon, they may drop it too

        Hi Chewey,

I am glad that I bought my 1655 few weeks back ... just as a back-up to my 1640 ...

Actually I took you guys advice and I am using my 1640 strictly for Decrypting my Originals and suing 1655 for burning. I am happily amazed at how good my 1640 is and as much as I have scanned and burned with it (~3000 dvd Burns & ~1500 cd Burns) ... it is still going ...

I should have bought me a 1650 from NE when they had them for a mere $27.99 including shipping.

Nonetheless, I will just stay with what I have for now and no more spares and see what will happen.

Chewy, what are your thoughts about my decision!?!?!

        G!

I use my 55 for all - 40 for all + that is just easy for me to figure which are from which and I may put back my pioneer back to box since they can only burn good with DL ( can't rip fast either) time for my 40 back

                  Hi guys,

@ Chewy ... I am confused what you are trying to tell me ... but may be I should stop being cheap and pay the $48 and buy me a 1650 for "Future Use" ... since I already have a 1655?

I would baby that 1655(might even hold it back) and burn with another drive

                        Thanks Chewy

PS I have one question, I had 1620 that was in external box one day I try to put it internal and it does not do any thing no power can't eject disc any more, is it a way to test if it is dead or not?

sometime I just hook power up to open tray, if it doesn't open it's dead

What is on the horizon for "good scanners?" Is there any? Why are the manufactures removing the ability to do scanning?

liteon's are coming out with test firmware and doing jitter measurement

hopefully we won't have to rely on verification and not being able to discriminate between a burn with 100 pif total and 10,000.
