Can you flash 1640 to a 1640B even if it is internal so it can have ultra 4?

      Night,
I still can't see any advantage in dma 4 for optical drives, burst is all that will
be changed, and at 2 megs that's insignificant to say the least.

where did you find a link for the 1640B firmware?

I had a difficult crossflash try to mess up on me, it was an old nec 1100 drive,
worthless with face plate broken, but I turned it into an nec 1300.

The flash seemed to go ok but after rebooting the drive light kept blinking
and would not respond. I reflashed and then powered down the computer.
Worked fine after booting up windows. Did one burn with it on +R media to check, scanned disk and then later threw drive in trash.

My OEM 1655 showed up today (yea, Saturday delivery from FedEx - wierd).

I already installed it. Are you guys using any particular drivers or software? There was an OEM Nero bundled.

                  Thanks,
                  Don

I have to say I have had much better quality burns with my benq 1650 then I did with my old optorite burners. I am just waiting to see how long it will last before i need to replace it. I am hoping it will last a long time.

                      My latest test:

                      IMGburn ** ** Nero 6.6.0.18 **Intelli Type Pro 6.1 **

                        Hey PA,

scan looks great! I notice that your burner is a couple firmware updates behind, if you were interested in updating it...

                        cheers, katz

hmmm...what do you mean by "stable", night?

I am using BCHC, which is what it came with, & I have not noticed any instability issues.

                              regards, katz
