Do you run "lean and mean" while burning?

Read and do this sticky by jmet called "How to free up some system resources or system memory in XP"

When I burn, I disconnect from the internet using "Local Area Connection"
I then "Disable Norton Internet Security"
I then "block traffic" in Nortons
I then "Disable Anti-virus auto protect"
    I shut down my anti-spyware.
I open "process explorer and shut down any other unneccessary programs.
I shut down process explorer and then open Nero to burn manually so Shrink is not running in the background.
While burning. I do not touch the mouse or keyboard because this cause input on the CPU

Then I only burn at 4X because I have a slow procesor.

Only by trial and error and "wasted discs" that I found a solution that works on my system. Good luck!
Post back your next scan and see if this works!

either got a bad power supply or something's thrashing the computer during the read test and during the scan

I use Liteon exclusively and in my experience that is a decent burn with Prodisc. Also I haven't had any luck trying to burn the Verb16's at anything slower than 8x, in fact I get my best results at 12x.

The red spike may have been a glitch(speck of dust), rescans may not show
it again even at the same scan speed, as a general rule rogue single spikes can be ignored especially if there's nothing else like a rise in pie to go with it.
The NEC drives(3550-457X) are inconsistent scanners. Take one of your best burns, scan at 5x, 8x and 12 x, whichever scan has the lowest PIF totals
is the one to go with, then use that scan speed.

can you tell me what do you qualify as a slow processor?

once I determine the best scan speed I never change it, I use the scans to determine the best burn speed

every so often I try burning at 4x instead of 8x, it never helps with my setups

well...im just going to have to take some time to determine all those things, after all,for all media,i cant use same burn speed,i usually burn at 4x,or sometimes at 6x...if media is 16x,i tend to burn 8x....but only if data, not video
