I would try it again and burn at 8X and then 4X. Scan all discs @ 8X. Then compare. Even though your single highest PIF is 3, I would be worried why the speed is fluctuating so wildly. The speed is fluctuatuing because the buffer can not stay filled. This is probably why you have so many PIFs. Take a look at this scan;Gary D

I am guessing his PIF total would convert to ~ 4000 and factoring that liteons
error correction is superior to even benq, that disk would zero out on your NEC. His transfer disk is a dead giveaway of a bad burn on bad media.
Older 3rd and 4th generation Liteons scan at 4x, his 5th and the 6th generations can scan at 8x.
BTW that's an extraordinary burn of yours, the best nec 3550 burn/scan I have seen. They almost always overreport PIE's.
I had a few good verbs lke that, but in the same spindle some real bad ones also.Comment

ok what's the point? I have graphed burn speed time and details
now scan the disk and it shows the burn speed line
on your faster burn you will be able to see where the burn goes all to heck with the PIF's

now what's interesting is if I scanned that disk with my benq, it might report
the PIF clump at 2 gigs and the PIE spike at 2.3 gig even more pronounced.
Some think it's related to empty areas is the data, whatever it's considered a firmware problem and if you notice it's after the drive gets to about 12x with burn speed. My initial tests with earlier firmware were the same, don't burn at 12 or 16x, but 8x was as good as 4X. The last piece is do a transfer test and see if there's any glitch at the same bad points.
