I would try it again and burn at 8X and then 4X. Scan all discs @ 8X. Then compare. Even though your single highest PIF is 3, I would be worried why the speed is fluctuating so wildly. The speed is fluctuatuing because the buffer can not stay filled. This is probably why you have so many PIFs. Take a look at this scan;
That is a real nice scan Gary!! Absorbing some of the info you and Chewy are sharing, thanks guys!!
let's assume so, optodisc is generally regarded as crap, but your liteon is a
good reader, that's why it scores the disk so high but the burn is bad enough to cause transfer problems(read graph)
What would cause this? My speed will fluctuate in Nero if my buffer will not stay above 90%. But the speed will go from 4.0X >>3.9X>>3.8X. It will not jump from 8 > 4 > 8 like the beginning of xbill's burn.

Like I said before, bad burn, probably the media used, but w/o a good disk to crosscheck with it might be some flaw with the burner.
Yes I did. It was in options. I untick it and selected maximum. The first quality scan at 8x is a lot different then this quality scan at 16X. Hard to believe it is the same disc. I will repost the first at 8X and then post the new one at 16X under it so it is will be easier to compare:
8X:
16X:
This is the first time I used these but for some reason I can't disc quality to work with nero or dvdinfo here are my results on what I could do Disc info Scan Disc Benchmark
IMHO when I get a new supply of discs and the manufacturer has changed, I will (quote) "waste" (unquote) 4 or 5 of them.
I will burn at 16X and scan at 5X
Then 12X and 5X
Then 8X and 5X
Then 4X and 5X
I create these 4 as data discs in CD/DVD speed. I save the graph as PNG format as JPEG takes twice the space. I make sure my burner cools between each disc. (1 hour wait) I then compare all 4 PNGs and select the best burning speed for that disc. Then for the first couple of movies burns after that, I scan again to make sure that the results were not erroneous. Then I scan every 3rd or 4th disc after that to make sure the results are the same.
Edit: Update your Cd/DVD speed to the next version 4.51 from my signature!
