        I'm satisfied until now

Too bad I can't find anymore MIT verbatim media, but I'll test this drive with other media too.

O.K. this is what I got with my Lite-On dvdrw shw-1635s, Firmware yson. I don't think they look very good looking at the ones you posted in the thread about how to do this.

              cough, cough, cough

there's a sticky over at general comp about safe mode

and liteon just released a new firmware just for you

              and check the dma

I hope we can fix that 1635, it's not a great burner but one heck of a scanner, maybe we can use it to
crossreference scans for the Samsung. And if we are real lucky, jm and/or geno can explain what
in the heck's up with that liteon?

Really, a sticky about safe mode? cough, cough, cough,

Am I supposed to use safe mode when doing these tests? Honestly I don't use it when I'm backing up. I'll download the new firmware, haven't checked it in a llittle while. I'll check the dma but last time I checked it was on. I ran some more tests on a Playo disc with the Lite-On and they looked about the same as the first. I'll have to test the Playo disc on the other burner and see how they come out.

It is a good scanner, reads alot of discs my other one won't read. I know the scans aren't good but I back up most of my discs with that burner and hardly ever have a bad burn. Can the scans be that bad and yet make good back ups?
Would it serve any purpose to test a disc I've already backed up a movie on? I'm just suprised the tests could look so bad (which I assume they are) and still have the successfuly burns.

What about the tests with the TS-H552L? Do they look O.K.?

                Thanks for the help Chewy.

I checked the dma. I have 2 primary and 2 secondary IDE channels listed.

1st primary ide is listed as DMA if available with transfer mode Ultra dma mode 5 for device 0
DMA if available, transfer mode n/a for device 1

2nd primary is exactly like the 1st one on device 0 and 1

1st secondary ide for device 0 DMA if available, transfer mode n/a
                  for device 1 the same

2nd secondary ide for device 0 DMA if available, transfer mode 2
for device 1 DMA if available, transfer mode n/a

I also have 2 standard dual channel pci ide controllers.

I have the one internal drive and one external, is that why I have 2 of everything listed?

safe mode for the flash of the litey, scan in regular mode but don't multitask much, light surfing ok.

the data disk you created with the liteon shows very bad problems, that's
16x media, a 5th gen liteon and the burn rates were horrible, time was atrocious. Let's hope firmware helps, may be ide drivers hosing you.
Really need to call in the liteon specialists for consultation.

Need a little help from my friends.

I would like to post a scan in the Cdspeed scan thread with my external LG-5163. Here is the problem, Cdspeed doesn't recognize the LG drive. However, my "Safely Remove Hardware" icon does recognize the name and model of the drive but only when it's connected via firewire. It's also recognized in My Computer and Device Manager.
On the other hand, when it's connected via usb 2.0, it's listed as a "Mass Storage Device." No name. Still not listed in Cdspeed drive selection drop down box.

I've been burning away with this drive for about the last 4 months with no problems. As of now, still no reading or burning problems. The firmware was updated the day I got it to version A105.

DVD Identifier sees the drive and Nero Info Tool only sees the drive in the Configuration tab window (not in the drop down drive select box) and not the Drive tab window. From the beginning, unable to run a scan.

If anyone has any ideas on why I can't scan with the LG, I would appreciate any information.

The error message has me stumped. I ripped an ISO onto my hard drive first. I then created a disc from this ISO. This ISO was originally burned @4x with the LG-5163 on a Sony D11. However, after the first scan at 4x I read the same disc at 8x. No error message. I'm going to scan a few movies tonight.
Should I scan straight from the original disc instead of ripping an ISO to my HD?

maybe just a glitch in the w98 computer, that 512 megs of ram will do funny stuff with 98. But do a burn with the lg(just a normal one) or take a recent burn and scan with the benq, remember any activity on the computer while doing a usb or firewire burn is dangerous. Try an 8x burn on firewire.

I never do any tasking while burning. I'll do an 8x burn on the LG ASAP.
