Unable to Burn With New Media - Help?

I have burned several hundred DVD's of both data and movie back-ups and have been successful with almost everyone.
I have used several media companies like Sony, Verbatim and Maxell but all have been DVD+R media.

I recently purchased Taiyo Yuden DVD-R media (from a reputable dealer). DVD Identifier shows
them as real Taiyo Yuden TY03's.

My problem is that I cannot burn a single disc with this new, supposedly, top of the line
DVD-R media...what can I do to fix my problem? I have no problem using my existing DVD+R media.

My burner is a Lite-On SOHW 1633S (BSOS Firmware)

    Thanks in advance,
    -Matt-

I opened the frimware and TYG03 is not in there
that's a 3rd generation liteon, they are up to 6 by now

old burner/new media don't mix well

I would get a new burner or sell that media to someone else

At liteon website is available a new firmware for 1633, named BS0Y.

          You can download from here

So the only solution is to buy different media or a new burner

You can take codesguys bin file and edit it and replace TYG02 with TYG03
                and reflash.

                  1) I originally ordered TYG01 discs and received the TYG03. A such I am asking for a replacement of my original order or media of equal quality.

                  2) How do I find the info on what discs my burner will accept under it's current Firmaware (BSOH)? i.e. CHEWY - you were able to see what it would accept with the BSOY Firmware how do I see (or can yo do for me) that same info...

Thanks for all the awesome help guys - man are you all FAST with the help!!!

if you update to BSOY this is what your burner's firmware will support

I googled your burner and you never said what type those dvd-r are. your burner is compatible with 16x dvd+r but only 8x dvd-r. here you can check it out for yourself: http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Revi...rticleId=10978 .
If you use these forums you will not have to face that...

are your Taiyo Yuden DVD-R media 16X? Sounds like your going to have to use 8X

I know the TYG03 disc I have are 16x. I love them of course if my burner didn't support them, I wouldn't like them as much. How many do you have, ready to get rid of them?

It may cost you less to get a new burner then the blank media coasts.
                            go to newegg.

Final Solution was to Flash my burner!
I flashed my Lite-on 1633s burner to the newest 1653s crossflash found here: http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares.html#SOHW-1653S

                              I used this patch:
                              CS0T - patched - crossflashing, multi-colored LED (for 1213S, 1613S, 1633S)

It was easy, all I had to do was: Download the patch, Extract the .RAR file, Run the App, Re-boot.

Now it burns my TYG03 discs!

2 hours of research and 5 minutes to flash...
