Grey's Anatomy, Season 1 Both Discs

Hey all,

First, thanks for all the info you share here. I've found quite a bit of helpful stuff. This time, though, I've run into a problem that I haven't seen mentioned.

Let me say that I don't think it's just a problem with DVD Shrink. I've tried it with two different discs of each disc and haven't had any luck, and I've been able to burn other stuff without problems.

I used DVD Decrypter to rip Grey's Anatomy. It worked fine. But when I tried to burn it, Shrink told me it wasn't a valid file (not the exact message, I don't remembre the exact words). When I went and looked at the folder, it was empty. Had the GA name, but nothing inside.

So I ran Decrypter using PgcEdit. This time, it ripped and when I looked in the folder, it was full. I ran Shrink and it did the initial analyzation, then I clicked Analyze and it did it's thing. So, I clicked back up and went to bed. When I woke up, there's a message saying Burn Process Failed. When I pull the blank DVD up, it shows nothing on it, but it can't be used again. A couple of times in the past, I've gotten the Burn Process Failed popup, but the DVD burned just fine and works in my player. This time, though, it doesn't. I tried it again with the same results.

If y'all need the exact messages, I'll run it again and get them. I sure hope someone knows what I'm talking about and can help me. I really need to back up my GA discs =( I hate watching the original disc. I like to buy it, copy it, then store the original in a safe place (away from the hands of the kids).

Ok. Guess you are burning with Nero.

In this location you should find the Nero logs.

Shrink doesnt burn Nero does though. Which could mean that you are burning with nero through Shrink.

I just read another thread that said that about DVDShrink not burning anything. I hurried back over here to reread her reply, but was too late.

The problem is that I don't know what I'm using. I thought I was pretty smart about this stuff, but I guess not.

Here's my problem. I have both Nero and DVD Shrink on my computer. I use them both. I use Shrink when ripping and I use Nero for burning data discs. I've never used Nero for any other kind of burning. Not music, not movies, not photos. Nothing.

What I do is put the DVD in the computer. The DVD Decrypter pops up and I start the decryption. When it's done and I get the little carribean music, I close Decrypter and open Shrink. It analyzes, then I hit the analyze button. A efw minutes later, I hit Backup. It brings up a little screen that says "Encoding" and shows me the progress. After it's done, it tells me to enter a blank disc and continue. Once I hit continue and pick where I want it stored, it says "Burning."

I always thought it was burning with Shrink since that's the program I did the burning through.

So, after all that, how can I find out what I'm burning with.

I'm really embarassed by this. I'm sorry if I sound dumb or rude.

Open DVD Shrink and navigate to Edit>Preferences>File I/O. If you see "Enable burning with Nero" and a check mark beside it, then get rid of it and you can burn manually after Shrink is finish compressing.

You also might want to learn more about DVD Shrink. If you are just loading it and hitting "Backup" you are missing out on a lot of quality and compression settings.

Post your Ner0 log. It is in C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\NeroHistory.log (if you have Ner0 7 it's in C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero7\Core\NeroHistory.log)

And, read and implement the Golden Rules of Burning.

Thank you. I just did that. It did have the Nero function enabled. I've bookmarked the guide and I'm going to read it when I get up later =)

I don't have a NeroHistory.log. Once I get into Ahead > Nero, the only folders are CDI and Uninstall. I don't have Nero 7.

I'm trying to burn it again. I'd deleted the files last time because I was so frustrated that I gave up. But I really want to watch my show, so I figured I'd try again lol. I'm running it now (it's encoding), but since I unchecked the Nero burning, if I get the same error this time, there won't be a Nero log, will there?

I'm sorry to be such a pain. I'm a quick learner, so you'll only have to tell me once.

One other thing. I don't know how off topic this is, but if there's a chance it's part of the problem, then it's not off topic at all...

I was reading the Golden Rules of Burning. There was one section that talked about having DMA on. I followed the steps exactly and saw what it was talking about, but there was something that seemed odd to me. I have TWO primary drivers and TWO secondary drivers. And they have almost all different settings.

Here's a screencap so you can see exactly what I mean. It's huge, so you'll have to click the bottom right hand corner to see it clearly. Anyway, would that have anything to do with the problem I'm having?

Since that last post, I've disabled Nero and tried to burn it with Decrypter. It says it finished burning, but I've still got an empty disc. Surely this can be worked around?

I'm thinking it's a hopeless cause =( I read all that and then looked up more on it, but none of it makes sense to me. Even if I follow step by step, it won't let me enable DMA. I read that the only way around it might be to uninstall and then reinstall the drivers. I know how to uninstall that, but I don't have discs to reinstall them. Then I read a disclaimer that said you can easily screw up your whole computer when you do that and not be able to get back on, which would mean doing a system restore and turn my computer back in to what it was when I took it out of the box =( I even downloaed the backup utility and backed up my system, but then the backup was too big to burn to a disc. If it could have burned the back up, I wouldn't mind the hard restore, but that's a moot point. I guess I'll just have to accept defeat. Thank you for all your help though =) I've read a lot of your advice in the threads the last few days. You're a sweety. Thanks for giving your time like you do =)

I thought that might be it, so I borrowed my mom's to see if I could burn hers, and I got the same results. If you're talking about the media, I use Memorex. It's the best they have in this town. I can get Sony, but then all the rest is generic. I think I'm just gonna have to accept that I lose this time. Thanks though.

Enabling dma is probably about the safest thing one can attempt with a computer, short of just leaving the computer turned off. Windows xp keeps the driver and reloads it after you reboot. All you really do is reset an error counter, flaw in pre sp2 win xp. Get dma turned back on and report back.
