Trouble with Nero 7/Roxio DVD burning

I've used Nero 7 to burn about 10 Maxell DVD-RW's. worked fine.
Then I go to use Roxio to burn a imation DVD-R. No luck. It went through the process, said it was successful. Checked it on my laptop, DVD-R full but with no stuff on it.
I tried to use Nero 7 to burn the same DVD, went through the same process, said it was successful, DID NOT EJECT THE CD THIS TIME. Checked it on my laptop also, DVD-R full but no stuff on it.
I've even tried to use the Maxell DVD-RW's again, no luck.
So in the mist of all this, I've managed to ruin 5 DVD-R's experimenting with it and it's just not working for me anymore.

So why all of a sudden is it not working?

I'm running windows XP, I'm not sure what else you would need to know.

Hello and Welcome to the forum,

Roxio is know to conflict with other programs, I personally would uninstall the Roxio.

nero is better, as for the media you are using Use better media.

I have no idea what optodiscs are!

But I'll update whatever that is, thanks.

and I'm pretty sure it's nero that eats up the memory because I don't touch my computer when the DVD is burning and it plays the video so but I'm not sure.

the orig is stock from dell, the fast has riplock removed(fast DL ripping) and the last is region free(I use that option usually)

Okay I downloaded the 104c Dell Firmware, I read the messages and now I'm a bit scared to do it because I have no idea what I'm doing, lol.

just shutdown some of that crud(antivirus etc) and it should be perfectly safe, make sure there's no disk in the drive and execute the file(click on it).

okay yeah, I've already done the msconfig stuff. what other things need to be fixed besides uninstalling roxio?

with the firmware update, more memory free and roxio dead and buried try to burn another disk and post another log. Maybe get brave and use an Imation dvd-r(I don't trust dvd-rw's) and burn at 4x

As long as you shut down all your active programs and the ones running in the background, and kill any anti-virus programs and other security programs, you will be fine. Close all these, and click on the icon you downloaded and then after all is done restart. Chewy, is very reliable, if he gave you the firmware, I know that I, myself would trust in him. The warnings are to make sure you don't try to update the wrong firmware for the wrong device, mostly. You have the right firmware update selected, so don't worry too much.
