I haven't used many, but it seems a little slow...however, it did a few movies that convertx and Nero spit out.

For some reason when I use something other than DVDS/Imgburn the MID is removed from the disc. CD Speed reported no information, Imgburn and DVDInfo Pro were the same as well. If I use DVD-RB, and now DVD Flick, all that information doesn't seem to be there anymore.

Sounds like some strange things going on there loco.

Have you tried loading Nero Info Tool when a blank is in the drive? Or is it all a bunch of these - - - - .

it depends upon the scanning interval(1 vs 8) samsung and liteon use 1
                    benq and nec use 8

and since the QS is determined by the highest PIF, not the total, I usually don't watch it as much as the pif total, which is more important singling out
                    excellent burns

but just one huge spike can give playability or reading problems

A pof(benq scan) is when the pif gets real bad/high

other drives may just show glitches removed

I always look at the PIF total first, then PIF max. I see the QS as secondary for the reasons Chewy mentioned above.

If you look at a few scans from yesterday, the Verbatim had PIF total of 43 and max of 2. To me that is an excellent quality burn regardless of a 95 QS

I also don't like to see a cluster of PIF in one area, especially if it spikes in the middle. Although sometimes it's just something stuck to the disk, lol.

other drives may just show glitches removed
I used to see that occasionally with the NEC, but haven't in quite some time.

long ago and far away and on a real tight budget I looked for a benq, found an oem refurb at newegg for 32$, had to crossflash with retail firmware so it would scan

I gave it to my son over a year ago when I got my benq 1650

                                staples brand 16x dvd+r cmc mag's 16 cents

most any other drive would have died long ago
