I thought my NEC 3550 was getting old, but this is likely one of it's nicest burns according to QS. Burned @8x TYG02 DVD-R.

I am still disappointed with the # of PIFs in those scans. I really think these made in Taiwan Verbs will have high # of PIFs but low peaks. (Your max was 3).
I think that it just shows that the firmware may need some tweaking by Liteon before they burn better. Your results are consistent with the results at CDF. Only the older Verbs burn way better.
But in the meantime, I will use up what I have and start looking for some Verb 8X or some TYs 8X.Gary D

I think first of all these LiteONs have a problem with lead-in, they take way longer than any other drive that I have used. It also takes it up to 26% of the burn to reach 8X when it is set at that speed, average is 7.5X, max is 8.2X. It takes up to 85% of the burn to reach 12X when it is set at that speed, average 8.9%, max 12.1%, at least that is what mine does. Now I am no tech but I just get the feeling ever since my first burn with it, that it is just not reaching it's full potential. I have SmartBurn enabled, unless I am not using it properly, I have yet to find a step by step guide on how to get the best out of it. I do not have hypertuning or overspeed enabled. Any ideas out there, I am willing to listen but toasting the drive is not an option.
BTW the last scan was with SmartBurn totally gone from my system. Long story about a KProbe download & screwing up my PC, you don't want to know.Last edited by soup; 6 Jun 2007, 07:21 AM.
