The consensus of opinion is quality for premium single layer is going to heck in a handbasket, that's why those in the know with the resources are buying up premium media, yes night I am talking about you!
And the burns vary from same make\model burner\fw\media combos let alone from different burners. R03's went down CMC's went up for some people. I had good burns with the CMC when others weren't
Totally dependent upon burner\fw\media combination or maybe the luck of the draw, I dunno. Scans are for comparing burns, some burners will read a DVD better than others. Some burn better.
The accelerated test being done as Chewy mentioned for burnt media will be the final bible about it. And then it will only be for the specific media they tested. People have mentioned variances between media on the same spindle let alone from a different batch.
I've mostly used Verbatims, before reading this forum I pretty much bought whatever was on sale. I occasionally have bought some "really cheap" Playos just because a 50 pack was under 3$. They have suprisingly been fairly good. I have never ran them through I've never used Ty or Yuden so I can't comparet them to Verbatims but I have had excellent results with the Verbatims.
I've never done a disc quality scan on any of my backups. Guess I'll have to do that with some and post them. Then maybe someone can tell me if it's good or not as I have no idea how to read the scans.

Smoky,
i also have had great luck with my verbatims, which are often on sale at Best Buy for about 30 cents per disk. If I dont care too much, i use TDK's, which i can get for 20 cents/disk.
