Can burn cd's but not dvd's

Hi my sister got a new dvd burner (lg) and has been using it for a while with no problems but she had to replace her motherboard today but now when she goes to burn a dvd(with nero) it starts and says caching files 100% but never gets any further, she tried a cd and it worked

Also didn't notice if this was like this before but in windows explorer it recognizes the drive as dvd-ram not dvd-rw

She tried re-installing the drivers but it doesn't seem to do anything

    what else can she try

    thanks

Please post Nero log for better assistance. Meantime, make sure your DVD burner's firmware is up to date:

my older lg 4163B has always been seen as dvd-ram, that's actually good!
It means it will do dvd-ram in addition to regular dvd's. Double check that all
the cables and drive jumpers were set right and bios also.

      and definitely follow ben's advise!

someone should have never loaded the via ide driver, the default MS one is the one to use, that nero may be too old for that new LG drive, don't try to flash firmware except in safe mode with those via drivers loaded, that's probably why your dma shows OFF.

there's lots more wrong but this needs to be fixed first, was this a clean install
of XP after the mobo change?

          this question is critical!

            Thanks Chewy

First the guy that installed the motherboard said we didn't need to format so i tried installing over windows first,it worked but there were too many problems so then i did a clean install

also i don't know why but the nero version that is installed is 6.6.15

would it be better to install windows again or will this not solve anything

You used the driver cd that came with the motherboard, that's the main problem, when I am doing a clean install I try to install Wxp sp2 then go into device manager and only install what's not picked up by the windows cd.
A lot of the drivers on the cd are older and not written for service pack 2.
You can go into device manager and roll back drivers to windows default or uninstall from control panel/add and remove programs. Ide drivers, primary and secondary or via busmaster.

until you get the drivers installed right don't expect nero to make any sense at all

It's all downhill from here, way to go, now nero and windows can tell us the truth.

go for DL13, load from safe mode with no disks in drive

                  update nero from here

those blanks are terrible so feel free to test a lot
