    liteon burner problems...help!!

my dvd burner is liteon sohw 1653S.
i cleaned its lens using sum isopropyl alcohol.
now it wont write properly to CDs. leaves the sessions and disc open. Write quality is the worst ive experienced yet (reads the cd at such a low speed that an audio cd refuses to play smoothly). Same is with the DVDs ive burnt.

with nero cd-dvd speed tool, it sometimes gives a power calibration error and also gives error sometimes while drive spin-up before running a benchmark test.

Help me plz as to what i should do now.

jm..read you are a liteon specialist. wud be grateful if you could help.

    btw...

i am wondering whether room conditions such as temp. and humidity count when it comes to burning cds or dvds.

ps. it has problems recognising whether the cd/dvd is in there in the first place!

Sounds like the burner may be starting to go.
And yes heat is a factor, you never want your computer or drives to over heat. Do you not have air in your home?

You may want to put fans on them, (fans blowing on them if they are getting to hot)

I have 3 internal fans in my pc.

If you do need to get a new burner newegg.com has awesome prices and fast shipping. I just bought a few drives myself.

How was it reading and writing before you cleaned it?

well, it read ok...not really well as it used to but just ok.
writing was fine as long as it was data. with audio there was jibberish about 10% of the time.

is there any relation to this system ASPI thingy? nero infotool shows nero aspi working properly but no system aspi.

just today, it now doesnt recognise any dvd+R or Cd-r media i put in it. including some of those that have already been written to.

btw....nero's logfile shows DMA to be off on my drive. gonna try change it (makes any difference?)

Is the firmware up to date? Ya using a decent media? The drive might be going....lasers getting weak.

As far as the DMA sure, your IDE controller should show DMA if available and not PIO mode but that wil increase the speed of doing things not make it able to read and write
