Nero 6 "Illegal Disc" Error

I have been buring DVD's for awhile but I just built a new PC and I get this error when I burn disc's now. I was able to burn a disc when I first put the system together. Can someone look at the log and let me know if anything is wrong? Thanks!

I would say remove incd
Just uninstall nero then use the clean tool and reinstall and make sure incd is unchecked when you reinstall

Nero version: 6.3.1.19
If possible update nero to version 6.6.0.18

Recorder: <SONY DVD RW DRU-710A> Version: BY02
Update firmware to BYX5 here is a LINK

It looks like your burner isn't recognizing the disc what brand of media are you using

Check your ASPI layer configuration. Your recording program is likely to use the standard windows ASPI layer, which has been replaced by another ASPI layer of yet another recording program. Make sure you have the original windows ASPI layer in use and retry

Same "illegal disc" problem with SONY DRX-710UL

I have been having the same problem with my Sony DRX-710UL. It had been working fine just recently using the same media, software, etc. I figured it was a problem with some new form of copy protection on the DVDs I was backing up, but I was able to back up the DVDs with my old Sony DRX-510UL with no problems (using the same computer, software, USB interface, etc.).

As instructed by many of the posts on this site, I have installed the latest firmware (BYX5), latest USB interface upgrade, have tried burning at only 4x, and am using Nero 6.6.1.4. I don't know whether I have InCD installed, but if I do it hasn't changed recently, and I have only had this problem for the last few days. I have tried several different media which have worked fine in the past and now all give the "illegal disc" error. Using the Nero Info Tool I can see that I have both Windows and Nero ASPI installed, but I don't know how to specify which to use when burning. I have even tried creating a data DVD with Nero, but it won't even do this!

Any suggestions? I am pulling out my hair over this, and believe me I don't have much left to lose! Thanks for your help.

You have Roxio installed with Nero which is a no-no, remove via this clean tool.

Log file

Hi. I hope this is what you need, and I hope it doesn't contain any serial #'s or other sensitive info. This may have been a simulation since I got tired of making coasters. If so, it gives the same error as when I try to burn for real. Thanks a million.

Have you tried another brand of discs? TDK's aren't known for being the greatest, I would suggest Verbatim (MIJ or MIT) or Maxell (MIJ only).

The version of Nero you are using is known to be buggy, but if changing your media solves the problems there may not be a need to downgrade your program to 6.6.0.18

if an older usb burner works with the same blanks and the same computer, I would think your drive is bad or you had a bad firmware flash

firmware flash

Thanks to all for their help. I also tried 2 different types of Fuji DVD-R's and a no-name spindle of DVD-R's. None work with the new drive and all work with my old drive and a home theater type of DVD recorder.

The problem started before I upgraded the firmware. So maybe it was initially bad media, followed by a bad upgrade of the firmware. So, I tried to re-flash the new drive but the program provided by Sony to do so (FWupdate.exe) shows a pop-up stating that I have already updated the firmware and terminates. I thought maybe I could flash an older version of the firmware, but haven't yet scoured the internet to find one.

Any other suggestions?

try to shut down all extra processes and let's try this firmware, being usb we might have to try an extra trick or two

first see if safe mode sees the drive?

is this the right file?

Chewy,

Thanks for your help with this, and I hope I am not offending you by second guessing this, but are you sure this is the right file? The CSOT file is for a Liteon DVD. Above it is a file for my drive, I think:
• BYX5 - patched - crossflashing, multi-colored LED (for 1213S, 1613S, 1653S, etc.)

Also, I rebooted in safe mode and the computer sees the Sony DVD but lists it as a CD drive. Should I run the BYX5 program in safe mode?

Thanks,
Joe
