    DVD+R DL Failure at ~50% :(

I'm using Imation DVD+R DL 2.4x discs with a brand new Sony Drive in Nero. I just replaced my drive thinking it was the problem. I'm trying to burn a number of 7+GB .ISO files and it I have been unable to get a sucessful burn. Any help would be great. Here is the log from one recent attempt:

How did you create the ISO? The only recommended way is to create a ISO using DVD Decryptor from the original DVD.

Your error is the same I got with my first burn. I created my own ISO and Nero didn't know to switch layers so crashed at 50%.

If you have a video_ts folder. Create a ISO by using Imgburn 2.0 and its build function. You will then have to select a position for the layer change. Also, use Imgburn to burn by selecting the MDS file. This file contains the layer change information.

If you create a ISO with DVD Decryptor, also use Imgburn to burn the DVD (select the MDS as well).

    I also recommend using a Verbatim DL+R.

that burn crashed after a minute, probably hardly got started, and no where near the layer break.

I would verify this mess isn't killing the burn first by experimenting with single layer media

updating nero to 6.6.14 would enable you to test spti(which is what imgburn uses also)

Doesn't change that Imgburn is a hell a lot better than Nero for DL's.

Nero is totally unacceptable for dual layer video, the only thing nero does better than imgburn is the logs. I tried.

after you get the bugs out with single layer, then use imgburn for dual layer, if you can get nero to burn single layer on spti, then imgburn should have it made with dual layer

This particular log I posted is only a minute in and I apologize for that. Every other burn I did was around the layer break where I experienced the failure. I did not create the ISO with DVDDecrypter and I will try making them again. I also tried this burn with ImgBurn and I had very similar results. Nothing past 56%

It should work. After Chewy's response, I did wonder how you got to 50% done in less than a minute.

OK I ripped the DVD with DVD Decrypter and tried to burn it with ImgBurn.

                    It failed around 61%

I would go back to nero and single layer media and fix the burns, you're just making expensive coasters now

after getting a clean successful nero burn log then tackle dual layer

and we need a good media to test with single layer

Change to Verbatims. Did you fix your DMA?

You should only use genuine Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden media. Many thanks to www.pcx.com.au for their supply and great service.

I've burned over 250 DVD's singles layer on my PC so that is not an issue. I've burnt different image formats with no problems. What type of single layer test do I need to do? Should I test it with this media or another?

I don't know what I'm supposed to change about my DMA settings. It seems to be enabled as Ultra DMA 2.

I may need a bigger power supply becuase when I turned on the 6th hard drive my PC wouldn't boot right so I had to disconnect it.

I really think you need to change to Verbatims. Pretty much all the folks around agree these seem to be the most reliable DL disks around.

I've burned a couple of dozen MKM-001s with no errors at all. Give it a try.

And ensure your firmware is up to date
