DVD-R doesn't play in standalone DVD player after burning in Philips 1660

I've just bought a new DVD burner because I wanted to do some dual layer disks, this model seemed ok and it has burnt a DVD+R DL fine.

But I then went to do a copy of a DVD-R that I have (that burns fine on my other recorders) and when I put it in my standalone player it says "cannot play disk". I used Nero 6 and originally tried it from copying the VIDEO_TS files, this didnt work, so I also tried a disk copy from within Nero, this didn't work either. The copied disk does play fine on the PC with PowerDVD. The original DVD-R is not copyrighted, it's a home video. Why won't it burn a DVD-R properly?

the burner is a pretty good burner, the blanks(ritekG05's) are inconsistent crap

Thanks for that, have upgraded to that now.

Would it just be the disks that are the problem, in conjunction with the burner ? On my other PC they burn fine, but consistently not on this PC with the Philips. I thought it might be something like bookmark but am just trying to figure my way through that right now.

most of those phillips burners are benq's which can be real picky about the media you use.

you might want to update nero

I am trying to fix a friends External DVD Writer which is a PHILIPS DVDR1660P1.

Basically the drive is recognised when switched on, but as soon as I put in any DVD/CD it hangs windows or nero.

I dont think it is the media's quality, as I have tried a pre recorded DVD.

I did notice that the actual drivers for it are ProLogic something or other, I think this is a generic DVD driver.

I have updated the Firmware to the latest 1.6, but cant find any specific windows drivers for the drive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

              Cheers
              Stephen
