Night might have gotten a lemon NEC, mine, when new burned some of my best disks on TYG01, TYG02, YudenT02 and Verb MCC004.
above 8X was horrible tho.
my Nec 3550 burn better with non TY or Verb blanks( it burn all the Junk blanks CMC mag and even Ritek 003, it can not come close with those benq that I have)

My NEC burns my TY's and verbs great my TYG02 always had a quality scan of 97-99 and my Verbatims MCC004 are always a 97 -98

That's a fine drive Jo. I especially like the quick DVD RAM speed. Once you start using DVD RAM, you'll wonder what you did without it. It's terrific as a quick file backup. LGs are great drives and one of the few with DVD RAM.
I am not sure whether they have finally implemented permanent bitsetting via EEPROM though (I use software to do this on reboot on my 4163B). And there are no "scanning stats" on LGs but I have not found this to be an issue. If you want scanning, go get an el cheapo LiteOn (which is about all they are good for).
Not sure if this is the case of all LG burner/readers, but they can be very slow to pick up speed after that dummy sectors are inserted if you use DVD Decrypter.
