I bought an other 1650 I know I like that one and I was trying to figure out which as a second to grab to I thought I would try the 1620 for the other computer.
20 is as good as 40 but I dont think it can double the speed ( 8x rated can burn at 16x, I know you dont care any way )

I still love my 20, when I have time I will try to make it work again

I was never that worried about doubling the speed I never thought of buring at 16X I guess I am taking a huge step with burning now at 12X LOL

          Thanks for the input.

              This is that stores discription:

              Description Back to Top

8x Media Over-Speed Burning at 12x or Higher Speed
Burn selective 8x media at 12x or higher speed! Better yet, with QScan, BenQ exclusive utility tool, you can scan the disc quality to determine the best burning speed and optimize the over-speed writing feature of BenQ DVDRW. For more information about QScan, go to Applications.

              Unprecedented, Fast DVD Recording Speed
              With 4x DVD+R DL, 16x DVD+R/-R, 4x DVD+RW/-RW writing spec, DW1620 Pro records a full 4.7GB DVD at only 6 minutes and a full 8.5GB DVD+R DL at only 25 minutes!

              Write Right Technologies
As writing speed is increased, signal loss becomes the key cause of a Significant decrease in writing quality. BenQ's High-Speed Signal Algorithm manages the high EFM(Eight-to-Fourteen Modulation) frequency signal loss that often takes place at high-speed writing - ensuring superb writing quality.

              WOPC + BLER OPC
Unlike other drives which preset the writing power before the actual writing of data, the WOPC II (Walking Optimal Power Control) algorithm evaluates the writing quality constantly and adjusts the writing power accordingly in order to ensure the best possible writing quality over the entire disc. The BLER OPC (Block Error Rate Optimal Power Control) further enhances the writing quality near the end of the disc, where the risk of warping is higher.

              Tilt Control
Optimal reading and writing quality is obtained when the angle between the disc and the laser beam is 90 degrees. However, if a disc is warped, the laser beam many no longer be correctly positioned. BenQ's Tilt Control repositions the OPU (Optical Pickup Unit) to maintain the 90-degree angle between the disc and the laser beam in order to ensure the best writing quality.

              Sliding Cone Mechanism
With the unique Sliding Cone design, the disc position on the turntable is improved considerably. This greatly helps to reduce data access time and also to deliver superior reading and writing quality.

              Black-Colored Tray
BenQ unique dark-colored tray efficiently minimizes jitters, and enhances readability and burning quality.

              QVideo 2.0
Creating your own DVD disc from a TV, DV, or AV source is now easier than ever!! With QVideo 2.0, making your own DVD is even easier, and it's in real time!

              Book Type Management
The BenQ Book Type Management program allows you to freely choose a DVD+RW or DVD+R disc to be written as DVD-ROM book type, the most recognizable disc format for DVD players. No longer will you need to worry about media backward compatibility problems with older model DVD players.

I was just wondering if anyone else bought any of these from this posting.

                    I did I bought 1 1620 and 1 1640

I never got the 1640 and today they told me they dont have any in fact they said they never did. They told me they got in a shipment of boxed marked wrong and they never did get any more in.

They are now selling the BenQ1650V

As for the 1620 I just got that today as well. LONG wait there.

So I found a toll free number for BenQ and they told me that the 1650V is the same as the 1650

Does anyone have one of these 1650V models.. anyone know if they really are the same??

                        @chewy,

Not sure what you mean? Are you saying that this is not a good one?

That Zipzoomfly told me they are sending one of those for the other one I never got. The people at benq claim its the same.

OK I am the ideot, I just took a closer look at those links so the stupid thing is just a reader?

OMG I have to get a hold of those people yet one more time.

the 1640 and 1650 were probably 2 of the best burners ever made, the
1620 might even have been more durable and better made

new liteons are about the only game going for scanners

I cant seem to find a 1640 anymore

Do you know anything about the 1670? they seem to have those in now, wondering if you ever used one and what you think of them.
