    Labelling burnt DVDs

I've just started backing up some of my DVDs onto TY02 DVD-R blank media.

I read somewhere in the forum that it's not a very good idea to stick labels onto DVDs as it might cause problems during playback.

Is it OK to write on them using any of the following:

    1. Overhead transperency pen
    2. Permanent Marker

      2. Permanent Marker
      (sharpies work great! )

However stay away from the Matalic sharpies.
Also stay away from the matalic perm. paint markers.

The matalics will harm your dvd's and can harm your player.

I may not go that far but this may be an off topic Question, the information in the dvd is on the bottom of the DVD?

Label can make imbalance and peel off inside the player so they are no good, but if I dont use sharpies and write even with real pen on the top layer? are they even damage the dvd information?

            Thanks

unlike cd-r's, burned dvd's reflective layer in under a layer of plastic so a sharpie can't penetrate

the top of a cd-r is the reflective layer, course I use sharpies on them anyway

I am sure what chewy is saying is true, I personally only write on the inside ring that has no data on it to write with a sharpie with. (Just to be safe I guess)

Well, I guess an engraver is out of the question, too...Dang, guess I better start re-burning my whole library!

I never even gave that a thought; good idea PA! Although, there is only so much room on the inside ring, so I guess a fine tip sharpie would be the thing to use.

                              regards, katz
