Disc Writer Pens?

I've always used the pens that they manufacture especially for writing on CD's to label them. (I have a set of Maxell brand ones called "Disc Writer")

I know that many of you will say you prefer to make labels for your DVDs but I hate the time it takes and like to get my DVD labeled right away so it doesn't get mixed up with blanks.

I've noticed some older ones that the writing is actually showing through to the playing side of the dvd. I began to wonder if these pens could be damaging the burned side in the long run? Any studies on this at all?

have used sharpies for over 3 years now and no problems

dvd's are made differently and the top coating is not part of any critical component

if you can see the marking from underneath then the marker and the disk
are bad, what brand of disks?

cd's are bad, the top layer is a critical part of the disk, it's the reflective layer that makes it all work

must be some bad cd's or very strong marker ink

I have seen some markers that claim to be "the only safe markers for writing on dvd or cd's. They cost a lot more then sharpies and I dont think there is really any difference other then cost.

I also use sharpies and no problems with then just make sure you stay away form the Matalic sharpies those will create all kinds of problems from destroying your player to wrecking your dvd.
