The error from the first burn in this thread was probably from the booktype not being set (or kept).
No. As I explained, the previous burn error was not in the lead in (which is where the booktype setting is).

Burner getting tired or a duff disk/batch of disks (though not too bad).

    I 19:20:10 Filling Buffer... (256 MB)
Why so big? Mine is 40Mb

booktype didn't really matter, just for playabilty, but I might reflash that LG
and doublecheck the power connection to it

My buffer is big because I have a GB of RAM.

When I burn, that is all I do! I do not surf or do anything else.

So I give the program all it wants.

Another note: I rebooted the computer and the booktype did not keep for the LG drive. It will have to be set everytime I use ImgBurn with LG.

And yes, it could be getting tired! I am surprised it has lasted this long! With all of the burns and reads and tests and verifies, every day is a bonus.

This drive does not owe me anything!

Now the better question for Chewy, what do I pair the NEC 3550 with when this goes for good??? I been looking at CDF and nothing impresses me with the new LG stuff as most firmware has not matured enough.

I'd still set it to 40Mb.

The LG4163 does not retain the booktype setting on poweroff. But every time ImgBurn runs, it will set the booktype on that drive. You can see it on the verify log.

Im also having problems burning a dl +r disc with my 4163b. have tried everything i can find but it still refuses to burn. have flashed it to latest official firmware and it at least now read discs correctly. i use dvdclone to fix the image but when it comes to the actual burn it fails every time, dvd clone tells me it may be a problem with the disc and to try another, nero doesnt work at all and image burn give me an error saying there is a missing or faulty cell for layer break. am at work so cant post any logs at the mo. i think it may be the discs im using as they are 8x aone ones(yes i now realise i shouldnt have bought these as they are rubbish).

It burns cd-r's and single layer dvd's with no problems, just dual layer discs im having the hassle with. also the thing im try to burn is a image, but have seen people burn this to dvd before so it is possible.
any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

I think i have that program already, but will try it when i get home. if i have any dual layer discs left, already turned 5 of em into coasters so far. clone dvd actually fixes the image, however when it comes to burning it fails everytime. clone dvd tells me it may be a bad disc and to try another. i also tried burning image as a normal data disc but that fails as well.

not good, bad blanks, has your burner seen a lot of use?

verbatims are the only good dl disks made

when they released A106(jan 2006), they said the only thing it did was improve dvd-r writing quality, I updated.

hmm didnt know there was a newer firmware update than 1.05. as i couldnt see a newer one on the lg site, it was originally 1.02 i think updated to 1.05 aboot a week ago i dont think burner has seen that much use though have had it for over a year and was thinking of getting new one when update this pc.
any suggestions on the best burner to buy?

i eventually gave up trying to burn the dual layer disc and just split the image with shrink. that worked no problem lol but i know when i next try to burn a dl disc not to be a cheapskate and buy crappy dl discs. thanx to all those who replied though, was appreciated
