you can't really tell anything with such inconsistent media, there's more variance from disk to disk than there is between burning speeds

my spin on it at least

true premium consistent media might show some difference

I have seen excellent consistent burns with liteon drives and 12X from disk to disk in better batches of mcc004

they burn and are playable, had batches of pro disc and cmc mags that were
about that good

When I used to have PIFs in the double digits, I was happy. Now I get some pixelization about twice a movie.

The only move left is to go better media. Time for some research on some TYs +Rs and this burner so I can buy it and test it

I would suspect your player's showing it's age or dust, none of those last scans show any area that would cause pixelation, I have to have red spikes to get it with my older toshiba, course that was a greasy fingerprint

I wouldn't say that...they are definately not in the top place, but they provide consistent results and even with the recent dip in quality the results still aren't that bad just a few more PIF's.

Whomever said that Verbs were overrated will convince me when I finally have a bad burn.

Let 'em play with their CMC-AE1s. I'll stick with my MCCs and MKMs.

On the other hand, I'd be awful careful about buying Verbs not made in Singapore or Japan.

I buy my Verbs at the flea market and the package says "Made in Japan", but it is written with a sharpie...do you think they are fakes?

Nah, totally legit, I mean only a huge corporation could afford to buy a genuine Sharpie.

I'm can't be certain that it was a "real" sharpie...but it does tend to run when the humidity is high. :O

The good verbatim scans are getting fewer and fewer, we still mention them as the prefered media in the same class as TaiyoYuden. I am getting as good or better burns with made in tawain cmc mags as some verbs made there and better than a lot of the MII ones.

A little over a year ago I had some verbs that were just as good as any TY disk I have ever burned.

Verbs(SL) made in singapore or japan are almost non existant, as are sony's made by TY. Forget ancient history, be here now.

Well these $ony's are MIJ and 8X and octagonal spacer!

Same burner...same setup... very different results.

These were burned at maximum speed (8X). No overburning tried yet!

At the 650MB mark, that one spike created 27 PIFs.

buy as much as you can, because you will never see scan like that again if you don't have them , I am sure you can burn them at 12x if you are in hurry

I've got about 5 Verb 16X +R's left in my current spindle and then I'm opening a frest pack of TY 8X +R (both printable)...The TY's are certainly the superior media, but I'll say it again at the risk of beating a dead horse...the Verbs are really not that bad when you look at the whole ball game. Both my burners, NEC 3540 and the BenQ 1655 turn in similar results using both media and the NEC is two years older than the BenQ.
