What are your all time favourite movies?

Star Wars Saga!!

Thats my favorite... I saw it in 1978 for the first time (I was 9), and it change my perception of life. I really love the saga.

Can't believe that one doesn't ring a bell. I do like sci-fi sometimes, there are some sci-fi movies which I really really like, such as Matrix, The Cell and Titan A.E., but I hated Independence Day and Event Horizon. I don't consider a movie to be one of my favourites until I've seen it at least four times. Here's what mine are now.

1) But I'm A Cheerleader - gay coming out comedy, brilliant one-liners and excellent performances from Clea Duvall.

2) The Wizard Of Oz - influential fantasy movie, how can anyone not like the scarecrow, and Judy Garland singing Somewhere Over The Rainbow?

3) Girl Interrupted - powerful mental hospital drama with excellent performances from Angelina Jolie, and good one-liners.

4) Dancer In The Dark - probably the most powerful tragedy I've ever seen, brilliant music and performances by Bjork. No movie has ever made me cry more than this one.

5) Requiem For A Dream - harrowing tragedy, powerful, fast moving imagery, excellent music, Jared Leto and all other main actors give good performances.

6) Cruel Intentions - romantic tragedy, and the only one I can think of that you could call intelligent. Plus excellent music and surprisingly good performance from Sarah Michelle Gellar, considering how very different this part is to Buffy.

7) Matrix - just good for the fighting sequences, special effects and Keanu Reeves, and the moral that celebrates humanity.

8) Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon - hypnotic drums with the fighting sequences, beautiful scenery, and beautiful cello by Yo-Yo Ma. Made me cry, but admittedly I had to watch it a few times before I understood the plot.

9) 28 Days - rehab centre drama, plays out much like Girl Interrupted, but is more of a light hearted comedy. Good performance from Sandra Bullock.

10) Shrek - just hilarious! Sweet story, too, and amazing animation.

I recently thought that Loves Labours Lost is one of my favourites, but I've actually bought it on DVD since then, and it's kinda wearing off a bit now. Any other good movies out there any of you lot can recommend? A lot of you seem to like sci-fi, perhaps you can convert me yet! Thanks.

Clockwork Orange was epic but I didn't want to put it with 10 best movies because I wanted to have some movies with meanings (2001, Dancer In The Dark, Run Lola Run) but I also wanted to have some movies which they just make u feel right watching them for the fun of it (Interview With The Vampire
for example)
I could easily remove one of those movies and replace it with Clockwork Orange
By the way what's your opinion about wide eyes shut?
Lots of people told me that didn't like it at all and most of them said it was average. I liked it very much though I have to say.
I saw "From Hell" the other night. Have u seen it?
It was average I have to say, but Johny Depp was playing
and he is one of my favorites male actors.
Anyway tell me about your taste in movies. (U don't mention Clockwork Orange in your list too )

Actually, I haven't watched many Kubrick movies, I've always held the prejudice that they're just fighting, no plot and try to be controversial for the sake of it.

That is, until I got into a conversation with someone about institution dramas like Girl Interrupted, 28 Days and One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, and they said if you like films like that, you can't not see Clockwork Orange. So, rented it, and loved it! A full on 20 minutes of pure melodrama from the moment they do Alex's presentation at the medical centre ... I honestly have to say that made me weep and sob uncontrollably more than any other movie I can think of, perhaps on a level with Dancer In The Dark.

So I'm planning on catching up on other kubrick movies soon and will post what I think. I'd say I do like the melodrama, but don't like it to be too predictable.

U mentioned Dancer In the Dark so I 'll tell u what happened to me with that movie.
I had this feeling depressing me and every time I wanted to Sob and cry Bjork started to sing and I couldn't so when the movie ended I have been a wreck (At least when u cry u feel better after).I was watching the movie at night before I sleep so the next day when I woke up I started to cry for no reason just like that .I guess the movie had an impact on me.

P.S. I am not touched and moved and sob with every piece of crap

Really? Of course, Bill's last moments with Selma got to me the most, apart from near the ending, of course. Although I didn't weep as much subsequent times I watched, I find it does grow on you, and you start associating all the music with the things that have happened just before it ... so I can't listen to Scatterhearts or New World now without bursting into tears!

You'll turn me into a movie addict soon, you know.

"Dancer In The Dark" was a Lars Von Trier Masterpiece with Bjork, Catrine Deneuve, and the guy that was playing the warder in the "Green Mile" (I don't remember his name ).
U should watch it and also the the whole top 10 that I posted right above too
