DVD error code 81200016

Were you able to get help with error 81200016. I, too, am unable to play a movie (obtained legally; bought from reputable store). DVD driver is Cyberlink 4.0 XP. Able to play most movies, but some movies, unable to play. Keep getting same error: "81200016 DVD title's file format is invalid". Can you help fix? Also appreciate any response from anyone.

Movie is - of all things - Star Wars Episode I (and others) that are about 5 years or older. They are the original movies not self recorded or copied. I have Win98SE w/driver Cyberlink 4.0 XP. Help! How do I play movies on my PC?

Why is Cyberlink 4.0 XP DVD error code 81200016 same as Nero burning software discussed in previous threads?

Does it play in a regular standalone DVD player?

Yes, it plays fine in a stand alone DVD player. Why not PC? It's a DVD-Video format. Attempts to play *.vob file extensions also fail. Puzzled why I can play some DVD-Videos same time not able to play others. Hmmm. Schezophrenic algorithms almost like members of opposite sex. How can this be? I must be lacking some certain decoder. Appreciate your help Les. Thanks.

I wonder if your laser needs cleaning. Get a cleaning kit and see if that helps.

Also, make sure the disk is squeakly clean, especially the inner bit (which is where the filesystem is located).

As long as you're sure it's not one of the many Asian bootlegs of this DVD, chances are it's dirty. Try cleaning the DVD (Standalone players are far more tolerant than are PC DVD-ROMs and/or burners, regarding playback ability)...

Thanks for your help. You are greatest. Problem fixed. Discs that could not run (format DVD-Video) were squeaky clean along w/the player before, during, after the failure. Those discs that did not have a problem playing continued to play okay; same for those that could not play. It was never intermittent. At anytime, during or after, did any cleaning take place. I, too, thought the optics may be to blame, but then why the mix of good and bad when all discs pristine? I rid some IRQ, removed/reinstalled codecs and drivers until successful. I sniffed for viruses and found none (at least w/symantec).

Orig error: "81200016 This DVD title's file format is invalid" kept on and was being read as a DVD-ROM format, but was in fact DVD-Video format. Good to know people like you are out there to help others. THANK YOU.
