I bought 1DVDCOPY from a guy at a MarketPro computer show. The program is obviously a hack of DVD Shrink, but the guy had also wrapped it in an installer package that required Microsoft XP-style "activation."
I was unable to get the program to activate (or run) -- which probably a stroke of luck. He then gave me an "unlocked" version with the name Watchitlater.exe, gravely telling me that he was "trusting" me not to redistribute it. Didn't work right either.
BTW, his file was a lot bigger than the DVD Shrink.exe (912K vs 256K), so I wonder whether if it contains some kind of spyware too.
Finally, the guy gave me my money back, realizing that I was planning to be more trouble than he bargained for-- and that was before I knew he was a thief rather than merely an entrepreneur with lousy QA.
The DVD Shrink ripoff was this guy's only product. He's been at subsequent shows, so I guess he's selling enough copies @ $59.95 to make back a profit even after paying MarketPro.
